Selling of TV Assets
The wife and I have been hearing talk around the squares and our Social Circle that the Morse's are putting up most of TV assets for sale such as Katie Belle's, The Lighthouse, Cane Garden, etc. We all know about the Wellness Center so this sort of fits into the scenerio.
Anyone have info on this? Thanks. Army Guy

I think that the goal of the developer has always been to allow the restaurants and other facilities to be owned by outsiders.
It is true up north of 466. Unfortunatly the developers do a MUCH better job of running these places. The Lighthouse and Cane Garden are two of my favorites and are MUCH better than Havana, for example. Katie Belles is now kinda far away from Center. Maybe they are planning another similar just-for-villagers dancin' place for Brownwood? |

Rumor
I'd heard a rumor about Kattie Bells but we all know about rumors. It wouldn't surprise me though. I also agree with GG they do a much better job of running everything. Would hate to see that change.

I wonder if Katie Belle's will still be a "residents only" club if it is sold. The new owner might want to open it to the general public.

Katie Belle's and other businesses
I think the developers have also sold off Property Management (the rental end) and the Transportation shuttle business to the airport, not sure about the taxi business, not sure what else. I think this is part of their long range plan - they develop, get it going, and then sell it off, might have read that somewhere, but could just be remembering someone else's opinion.
A while back I saw something on this site about their starting a new retirement community somewhere in Texas, similar to The Villages. Anyone heard anything about that lately? Was that just a rumor? |

And when they finish there they will move on to Cuba. That Texas thing is a very old rumor.

Katie Belles
Katie Belles have always been a lost leader for the Villages, the only reason its there is to show it off to new people. A perfect example is a few years ago they tried to open it up to the public and that didn't work. Years go people we going there for 5 hrs and spending 1.50 on a cup of ice tea and getting refills, they put a stop to that and are trying to make it profitable, thats why you are seeing all those high profile acts. Bring back the Katie Bar the Door Band, that was the good old days

Not to bash Katie Belle's but I guess that's what the following will mean:
When I finally closed on my house here and had my ID, my brother and his family (local non-Villagers) wanted me to take them to "your private club." I was happy to do so. But, we had such a horrible evening that we've never been back, and I have no intention of ever trying it again. Granted, that's now over 5 years ago, but I hear what it's like there and feel vindicated in my refusal to darken their door again! A huge disappointment! SWR

We were there in July and had a very good dinner and the entertainment was fantastic. The place was packed. We'll definitely go back. We took another couple as our guests. They are both vegetarians and they bragged about the food. We sat on the balcony and watched the live band and the people dancing. We really had a blast. The music was loud but we talked between songs and laughed about the saying, "if the music is too loud, you are too old." I would hope that if it is "sold" it is managed the same way it is now.

SWR try it again but pick a night when they have a cool group. We went last Friday night and Rocky and The Rollers were on stage . I like their music and they are much better in a theater like billing than out on the square. They play fro 7 to 11 Pm. We didn't get there until 9. The crowd was starting to thin by then and it was very pleasant. All we had was a pitcher of beer and pizza. Pizza was just OK but the beer was cold.
