Default Here's a Retired Trooper who continues to teach safety...

"Villager Jim Barnes was very active in all types of safe driver educational programs throughout his 20-year law enforcement career." And now in retirement he wants to help us with golf cart safety. He's making safety tapes. When you see some of the dumb things he taped it might surprise you, if you just moved here.

Retired state trooper uses golf cart dash cam to expose dangerous driving in The Villages

Cut and paste what's in boldface in a search engine and you will get to the story and videos.

[thank-you Jim]

I saw his video. I've seen every scenario he filmed every time I go out in the golf cart. Nothing in the video surprised me since we have been here 3 years but newcomers would benefit watching it.

How about the passing with a blocked view? I know the guy passing is in the wrong but if you were the guy being passed wouldn't you slow to a crawl to accommodate this guy?

Usually when I've been passed on a blind curve the person passing me cut back in so fast causing me to slam on the brakes. Sadly the persons doing this will eventually cause property damage and or personal injury.

He also took it upon himself to confront the person in the video driving the white van who turned in front of a golf cart; not a smart thing to do since he's not on the job anymore. The man driving the white van lives in my neighborhood and told me about it today. I'm a retired Trooper also, not from Florida; I just don't think that current Florida LEO's would approve of retired out of state LEO's confronting someone over a traffic violation.

That's something only someone with your background would know.

Seems to me that if the van driver lives here, he should know better.

People should see these.

I never understand why some of these golf cart drivers have to go so fast?

Mr. Krazorback fan: I have a question for you on this, in my view, your LEO experience and background qualifies you to issue an authoritative opinion on this.

What should a person do in this situation? What should have the retired LEO done? What should the golf cart driver that was cut off done? I ask because I had this happen to me recently and I am pretty sure I did not handle it correctly.

Someone turned right on top of me and I locked them up at 20 mph, it was so close there was a plastic :smear” on the passenger side back door of his car. The car driver looked right at me and ran, another cart stopped to make sure I was OK. I blew a gasket and I chased the car home but my wife calmed me down and I did not engage him, he looked at me like I was the one that was nuts….

I had his license number, his address and a witness. I am not a snitch and I like to think our police have bigger “fish to fry” than this. From the perspective of a LEO and a private citizen what should have I done?
