Default Series of booms this morning.

Along with some of the other people this morning at Doggie Doo Run Run, I heard what sounded like explosions at about 10:45 a.m. through 11:10 a.m. There were about 4 of these during these 25 minutes or so.

Anyone else hear these and anyone know what these were? Sounded like someone was blasting rocks or something like that? I have heard that before in Nevada and that is what this sounded like.

There were not any clouds in the sky so I doubt if it was thunder and it hard a different sound to it.

Was also different from rifle, shotgun, or pistol shots. And, also not the same as various kinds of firecrackers.

Default No. I do not think so.

These seemed of a low altitude. I have heard sonic booms quite often as we lived near the Reno International Airport and these were a weekly occurence from the National Guard's fighter jets.

I heard them as well, Tal. They certainly sounded like explosions. It was eerie. I was reading the Russian article I referenced on TOTV when I heard the booms.

Hope that the Russian article was not about sonic or any other kind of booms? Oh, I see that it does a little bit. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123051100709638419.html

He may be right if he changed the date to 2310.

I was in BonnyBrook and also heard the explosions at the time you mentioned. I have heard this a number of times since I arrived at the first of the month.

It sounds similar to a fireworks shell going off miles away. I believe it may be a mining or a rock quarry blasting but could be wrong.

Default Military

I'm not sure if Bogie was being serious or not, but, there is some type of military arsenal/firing range in the general area. The Daily Sun used to print small articles advising when they would be doing testing/firing. My guess is this is what you heard.

Default Bombing Range

The Navy has a bombing range located within the Ocala National Forest...from time to time they conduct testing using live ordinance. Although those bombs are exploding many miles away you can hear them(or sometimes feel them)way down here.

The Daily Sun still prints those small advisories when live ordinance bombing will take place...a phone number is included...in the event of property damage you call in a complaint...

Bogie is correct...

While living near active military bases, when we heard the sounds of munitions, as well as low flying aircraft, we called it the Sound of Freedom. We were living near Eglin AFB when the MOAB was dropped from a C-130. That was the Symphony of Freedom! Whenever I hear the Sound of Freedom I say a word of thanx to those brave men and women who have served and those who continue to serve.

Default Looks like it was something other than naval bombs.

From this 2008 article they only use live bombs on Tuesdays and Thursdays?? http://www.ocala.com/article/20080330/NEWS/921015527
