Then after my gesturing for him to pass me, I am presented with the finger. Unfortunately I lowered myself to his level and retaliated. I am not trying to impede traffic or be a road hog. I have taken to doing this from time to time as a defensive measure. Does anyone have any opinions on this? Drive an LSV on some of the roads here and drive a mile in my shoes. I am concerned for your safety and that of everyone who is traveling around you. El Camino is busy, and having half the traffic pass you creates chaos. Nobody is going to change their driving habits because you are out there driving slowly.

Sharing the road requires all of us to be considerate, and frankly, it sounds like you do not mind backing up traffic behind you and causing many, many people to pass around you.

Traffic is like water, when you interrupt the flow, turbulence happens.
I wish you would stop doing that, before an accident happens.

Other than the "finger" issue, you are probably doing the right thing. You have to assess the safety of the conditions that will dictate when it is necessary to move over to the left lane. To be courteous, you don't want to move over too soon. To be safe, you don't want to move over too late. When in doubt, safety trumps courtesy. Hopefully, both can be accomplished most of the time. Don't worry about the finger flippers. There will always be someone that doesn't want you to be in their way, whatever you're driving and wherever you go. In general, whatever vehicle you are driving follow the rules of the road and drive defensively. Most Villagers are safe non-aggressive drivers who accept alternative types of vehicles sharing their roads, despite what some of the posters here might lead you to believe.

I have often wondered why the LSVs don't have large, reflective, cautionary triangle signs on the backs of their vehicles, like the Amish buggies and the farm wagons have. It would help us to see them.

They have taillights, turn signal lights and brake lights for visibility. If a driver of a car doesn't see them, it is likely he/she is not paying attention.

You are correct, it has been the Law for OVER a year.

I watched a balding man come real close to be seriously hurt or killed on Morse Blvd
Friday August 1, 2014. Sometime between 2 and 3 pm.

He drove a Tannish Color Golf Cart over the Morse Bridge .
He was heading NORTH toward cr466.He had one set of golf clubs
and a Current Florida Plate.

An Auto cut around me like a bat out of hell, I was going 25 in a 35.
(I was being slowed by the 25 mph Golf cart in the road .
If I went faster, I would have run over the Golf Cart.)

As the Auto cut around me and then cut back in to get in front of me,
the driver of the Auto looked back at me and flipped me the bird.
He was totally unaware of the Golf Cart that was in front of me.

Since the driver of the Auto did not see the golf cart in the road in front of me ,
HE NEARLY CLIPPED THE REAR OF THE GOLF CART WHO WAS merrily SLOWING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC.

Thank God for ABS Brakes and Traction Control or I would have hit the guy who cut around me
when he spiked his brakes to avoid the Golf Cart that was hidden from his view in front of me.

The Golf Car driver waited for the light to cross cr466 and then continued on his merry way
North bound on Morse. He had no idea he had nearly met his maker.

Legally , the Golf Cart driver had every RIGHT to be there.
However, he was almost DEAD RIGHT.

How the other Auto missed the Golf Cart is a mystery.

This is the solution. Raise the speed limit on Morse, Buena Vista and El Caminio to 40 mph. Everyone drives that or faster anyway. The only reason it is 35 is to accommodate LSV's. But there are golf cart paths and tunnels to get everywhere without driving on those.

So the solution for bad auto drivers is to get the LSVs off the road? IMO, if a driver can't safely negotiate traffic at different speeds, perhaps that person should be the one off the road.

No, I don't drive an LSV.

Be careful, someone will come along and argue that motorcycles, because they are smaller and hard to see, are a hazard.

We all know the speed limits aren't going to change.
And we know that frustrated drivers will continue to pass slow-moving vehicles.
And LSV drivers will continue to be involved in accidents and die.

Maybe someone who has read this thread will choose to get off the street and stay alive.
