We have a Begonia and would like to do a 2 foot side stretch on the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms, guest bath and living area. Has anyone done that to a Begonia or Gardenia and if so, can you give me an approximate cost? I honestly don't know if it would cost $30K, $40K or even more. I've seen numerous people doing stretches to existing homes so I assume that it's not too bad but I may be mistaken.
Thanks very much for any input you may have. |

I have a Begonia and can only imagine the work required to do that stretch. You'd have to tear out the roof, the trusses and good bit of the ceiling to do it right.
I travel The Villages daily and have been in hundreds of homes and have never seen or heard of anybody doing anything like that. |

It's probably cheaper and less stress if you just bought another house with the stretches you are looking for.

It will also depend on your lot size, if such a project would be approved. I agree with the above comments, I would move before undertaking such a project. Now you see why people move so much in The Villages.

Since you would be changing the roof line, you would probably have to shift the centerline of the peak on the roof. This would require the entire truss system to be replaced. The idea of adding a couple of feet sounds simple until you figure all the work that has to be done to make everything look right and be functional.
I agree with another poster. You would probably be better off putchasing a new home with more square feet to meet your requirements.

I can only tell you that we have approval and quotes to add on 15 ft. to the side of our house and what is highlighted above does not have to be done. In addition, a neighbor behind us added on to his house and you cannot even see the difference from the original roof to what was added on. PM me if you would like more information.
