Yes, you could always get hit walking either direction so what is the point. Im open to suggestions. For the OP, if I can pass safely on my bike why am I ringing a bell? You have an obligation to not take up both lanes of traffic being all over the place so if I can pass to the left why the bell?
... if it seem's like it's everyone else then it's probably you...

It's not at all surprising that you've had that happen multiple times... it's the way it's supposed to work! Blind corner, T-intersection, long, straight stretch, etc, on the MMP you should walk to the left facing traffic. And really, you walk to the left facing traffic for exactly the reason you stated - the driver and the walker can see each other and decide what it is they are going to do.

I have met carts on blind corners while I have been out walking; perhaps you were one of the carts I met just this morning. Sometimes the carts cross the center line but not always. Because I see them and they see me, I can step to the left to hug the very edge of the path and they can move to their left to hug the center line and we pass with no problem at all.

Good idea. I would encourage bikers to use the old fashioned chime bell. Yelling out on the left or right it does not mean anything to a lot of people... Sometimes it takes too long to decipher which is left or right...

When that happens to me when walking I just step off path, problem solved.

IMO you would be better off stepping off path with way some drive or they may not see you do to A pillar/mirror/glare blind spots?

When encountering a walker coming toward you in your lane, slow down (or stop if necessary) until you can see that it is safe to move to the left and go by.

On the roadway or the MMP when I might meet a fairly heavy motorized vehicle I walk on the left so I can see it approaching and move out of the way if necessary.

On a sidewalk or walking/biking trail where I am of comparable size to everything else on the trail I walk to the right and pass on the left. This was customary in WA and MD when these type of paths were first put in. It has been a while since I looked into it but I believe it is still customary today.

Sure, we could decide to do things differently here in the Villages but that would just confuse the visitors and renters.
I live next to a walking path and it’s not uncommon to see heavy electric bicycles doing 20 mph speeding by. Safer to walk on the left there too.

Thanks! As a walker, biker and cart user of the MMPs this is good advise.

I, personally, would not make that assumption. Many walk in groups yapping and not paying attention to what is ahead. Then there are those who are looking at their phone, and not ahead. And we have dog walkers, watching their dog and not the road ahead.

Riders should also say "on the left" or "right" before they pass. Just making a gingling sound does not say much.

Not a good look. Just be nice and make a sound while saying "on your left" and be happy.

People are not going to walk as you command them to do. All that will happen is you choose to become angrier.

And neither means anything to walkers who have earpieces, glued to their cell phone, are yacking with each other or hearing impaired. They have a much better chance if they were walking facing traffic, again as we were all taught in kindergarten.

I disagree . The Briiiing ring of a bell is more universally understood than "on your right". The sound of the bell is unusual and the brain hears this.

I have experimented with ding dong bells (like a doorbell) ; "Tink tink" bells (like the free bells that come with a bike; bells which sound lightly with every bump https://www.rei.com/product/218517/t...BoCjXUQAvD_BwE.

These bells are the most effective by far the best https://a.co/d/03y8NR2B
