That is interesting Mickey. I wonder how far out the "supporting material" would extend. As far as I know, Insurance Companies in The Villages don't currently charge higher premium on policies issued to people who back on ponds.

Also Limestone, lots and lots of limestone which cause underground rivers which cause sinkholes if there is lots and lots of rain which will raise the underground rivers through the limestone which can break the limestone and the water is then diverted to another area thus causing a possible sinkhole.

When we lived in Royal Highlands (approx. 10 miles south of Leesburg) the development had two sinkholes and neither were near water. As a matter of fact, one was up on a hill at one of the highest points in the development.

The salesman told me they do not make the catch basin ponds as they think this can lead to sinkholes due to the weight of the water on the land and the erosion of the limestone in heavy rains and when leaks happen in the ponds linings. Other than stay away from the water I did not come up with any solution. You just have to accept the risk.

Sure glad to do it. People get all out of wack about sinkholes in Florida and certainly they occur and it's awful if it happens to your home, but there are many areas of the country with the threat of sinkholes and people just don't realize it.

Did anybody say get sinkhole insurance wherever you buy in florida. it's a tradeoff for being in the sunshine state.
