Six foot + alligator sunning himself on one of the islands in the middle of a pond.
We saw a over six foot alligator sunning itself on a sandbar in the middle of one of the ponds in Lynnhaven. Had not seen this yet in the Villages but was a rather common event to see gators taking the sun around Palm Harbor's Tarpon Lake.

I used to regularly see a couple of gators sunning themselves on a sandbar in a pond south of Arnold Palmer on Buena Vista.

I am not a golfer so am really only allowed on the golf courses where they border exercise trails like with the Springdale Fitness Trail or near where there is a country club with a good meal.

Well, you have to admit, the weather has been beautiful these past few days....both man and beast seem to be enjoying the sunshine.
Yesterday, hubby and I were driving to our postal station and there's a small "pond" near the road, really quite small. It's always been there in the years we've lived here. I no sooner thought, "That little body of water is probably too small for gators," when lo and behold, there it was, snout and eyes above the water line. Wasn't a big fella, but still, I was glad not to be living in the house nearby. The beasties are interesting to watch, that's for sure....FROM A VERY SAFE DISTANCE!!!

Still haven't seen one in the couple of months I have spent down there on and off. I guess that is kind of good since I like to freshwater fish.

Sometimes you have to look, but I have probably seen gators 8-10 times in our brief visits over 4 years. Last time, saw a pretty big one swimming down the length of the pond on Buena Vista just north of the Liberty Park wall/gate. That pond is, I think, on the edge of what they used to call the Eagle Preserve (or at least our realtor called it that). Did the eagles ever come back?

That gator is usually there around 9:00 AM.
