Default Relic

We went to the cruise in at SS this evening, where Relic was playing. In the absence of the Hooligans, High Tide, and He Said She Said, Relic is probably my favorite band that has played in the squares over the last 10 years. Unfortunately, tonight was rather disappointing. Their usual lead guitar player wasn’t there, and the replacement was a huge downgrade. They seemed to simplify their playlist to songs the new guy could try to play. Here is hoping the change in the band is not permanent?

So sad for you, did they not know you were coming?

I don't pay much attention to TV entertainment, but I believe I heard that the guy from Relic is on a cruise this week, playing with another band? Does that make sense?

More bands than you realize play cruise ships. Sometimes it’s a fill in, some actually cruise for 3 month contract, especially off season.

I must have gone to the wrong square, but I thought the band was great. All band members were present. Zack left the band some months ago so the guitarist is a new addition. Mitch was in great voice.

Relic, together with Rocky & The Rollers, stand head and shoulders above most of the other bands who play at the squares in my not-so-humble opinion.

I was there last night. Just wondering if you are on the younger side? I am not a fan of the Hooligans. Don't know the others you mentioned. While I thought Relic was very good and enjoyed listening to the sounds of Zeppelin and Queen, very little of the tunes were danceable. Guess I am showing my age. I go to dance, not to listen and stand around the stage like a groupie.

There are many good bands such as Blue Stone Circle, Blonde Ambition and Zee R band. Rocky and the Rollers are a mainstay and always a good time but I really think they are past their prime.

Blonde Ambition and Blue Stone Circle were on a cruise last week along with a bunch of Villagers (600+). Got back yesterday. Both bands were awesome as always!

Unfortunately, he is. It seems a permanent replacement. I do not golf or pickle ball, back issues. I go to the squares three or four nights a week. Live performances are my thing. The original guitar player was replaced late in the fall with the new fella. If you were lucky enough to see them on New Year’s Eve, the original was back that evening and the show was fantastic. I agree. The new guy is quite a slip and talent, but I still consider the band one of the best we have.

The first time is saw Relic, the old guitarist was still with them. He was so loud, the sound man had him turned all the way down in the mix. Still too loud. We left.

Since then, I’ve seen them several times and think the new guy is spectacular. Not to blow my own horn, but as a seasoned musician of 48 years, I have an ear for such things. In fact, the first time heard “The Way it Is” by Bruce Hornsby and The Range, I knew instantly that it would be the number one hit that year. “But,” you say, “that song is mostly piano!” And you’re right. I play piano/keys, guitar, and drums/percussion, so there’s that.

I don’t care how good a musician is if their ego has them playing so loud that they screw the overall mix to a point that screws the overall vibe.

Go go go New Relic Guitarist!!

And here we go!!
