Regarding the legality, I was in favor of it back when it was a Massachusetts issue. I'm now against it and my reason is simple. People (including my own adult children) are not using it for an occassional party drug but an all day crutch. When I was a teen I smoked it but it was only on a weekend here and there when we were out partying. Nowadays people are smoking morning noon and night. I think that is a problem.

Until recently I lived my entire 66 years in Massachusetts and I made the mistake of voting in the affirmative for weed legalization. I totally regret that decision. During the warmer months when you drive with your windows down, especially at red lights there is a constant smell of skunk in the air. The police see it, smell it and know about it but are unable to control it because so many people are driving around stoned. With the nice weather in Florida I can only imagine how bad this would be. Between the weed, alcohol, phone, radio and gps how can you find the time to concentrate on driving? Just saying…

What’s a great solution to stopping the smell while keeping law enforcement from arresting the culprits.

It really does seem to be an expanding problem that is coming from several places now here in the Villages. We have smelled it about everywhere.

Let's see what exactly seems to smell with this particular entitled complaint.

I distinctly remember a former neighbor, that after installing a huge pool and bird cage, would host parties that consisted of loud music and worst of all, sing alongs at the top of their drunken lungs.

Or maybe it is the people that would get involved in the "patriotic" flag displays on every federal holiday, my favorite was always the flag displays on Labor Day. My Chihuahua loves the little flags, he used to 'water' as many as he could manage.

The thing about pot is this. Unless you know for sure sure your neighbors are not participants in the Florida Medical Cannabis Program, you need chill out. Participants are covered by the A.D.A. (Americans with Disabilities Act). I would much rather listen to some nice music and smell a little weed, than have to listen to a bunch of drunken chuckle heads screaming out Oh Danny Boy on Cinco De Mayo or whenever all night long.

Just get over yourself.

What are some things you could do on your side? Enclose your lanai with double pane glass? Move to a house on a corner so there are fewer neighbors and a larger lot?

Maybe put a box or oscillating fan in your lanai blowing towards them?

A party now and then isn’t an issue. I can’t imagine why flags on holidays would bother anyone, but again it’s on holidays. But as I mentioned, the pot smokers are smoking all the time and I agree with the op, it stinks. I’d actually prefer cigarette smell. If the op is acting “entitled” perhaps it’s because they should be entitled to enjoy their property without constant stink of weed. That being said I still think putting a small fan out may be the best option.

I would also add that if your dog was allowed in my yard to **** on my flag we would have a problem.

A fan in your yard is like spiting into the wind. Not a serious solution.

"Medicine" comes in many forms. Smoking is not the only way to get the drug into the body. The one thing that smoking does do, is insure that the drug will be spread and shared by anyone nearby. Whether they want, need a known hallucinogen or not.

I would call the cops everytime you smell it!

[QUOTE=Bill14564;2393293]Not arguing against your point but if you change "smoking" to "drinking" the description fits as well. I know this borders on "whataboutism" but do you feel the same about alcohol?

Apples and oranges. When you drink your "medicine", you are not dosing the people around you. When you smoke your "medicine", everyone that smells it is getting a bit of your "med", like it or not.

I feel for you. Many times I’ve been in our pool relaxing and all the sudden smell the horrible skunk smell from our next door neighbor. Our neighbors across the street have even smelled it. It happens quite frequently. What do I do? Absolutely nothing. As frustrating as it is, if he wants to sit on his lanai and smoke he has a right to do that. I can either go inside or ignore it and continue enjoying my pool.

That was not the point that was being made in the post that was being commented on.

That is not funny, and if you let your dog do that, you are a bad neighbor. Jmho?

Properly diagnosed conditions and properly prescribed marijuana is perfectly legal in Florida. The rest is not legal at all, it is just not being investigated, tracked, or prosecuted.

Disney stopped that nonsense with very strict requirements now for receiving a DAS pass. Guests in wheelchairs wait in line like everyone else unless they pay for the very pricey lightning lane pass. Just an FYI. ;)

True. But it was a difference that I felt needed to be pointed out. Personally, I'm not a fan of total prohibition.
