When we were staying in TV for our house hunting adventure I witnessed some type of hawk sitting on a neighboring roof for the longest time. After a while he swooped down into the bushes outside of the birdcage and pulled up a garter snake and he went back upon the roof and made short work of the snake. They have amazing eyesight. He had to have been sitting about 100 feet away. I've read somewhere they can easily spot prey from the air but I don't remember how far.
