We've only made one trip to TV so our experience is limited (we were ready to buy a home but it didn't work out - we'll find another). Having said that, we were very surprised at how many of the people we spoke with who live in TV also have or have had second or even third homes that they rent. Which side of the snowbird issue are you on if you both live and rent in TV?

I am a Wanna be.....The Villages may be in our future...But...talk of crowds noise crowded eating establishments and happiness that the snowbirds are leaving brings ......makes me hesitate in buying???
I can understand both sides of the issue {i think}.....if the villages is so busy of a place and so many are not happy......Do I really want to be there?
I had hopes of a quiet peaceful safe place to live with the option to enjoy a lifestyle that i can enjoy......Sorry but all of the posts make me worried about making the wrong decision....

If you want to live in Florida, in the Winter, it will be worse any place that has a desirable location. We have tried both coasts from top to bottom and it is, no exaggeration,10 x as bad. 5 lanes of traffic both sides, road rage, 10 wheel trucks, long, long lines at restaurants, dirty unstocked supermarkets , to name a few. When we arrive at TV, in February, it is a breath of fresh air compared to the coasts. I cant understand the WHINNERS. If they don't like it MOVE.

I have talked to a few servers in the restaurants, and while they enjoy the money they get in the winter, they would rather have TV full of people who actually lived here, because they could be fairly sure of a nice steady income year round, not to mention they would rather be hired year round and not just seasonally. Obviously I am sure many of you will disagree with what I have said, but I am talking about my perfect idea, not yours, so I don't expect , nor care if you don't agree. I would like to get back to the idea of a "hometown" and not just rental property. I also doubt it would ever happen, but again, my thoughts.

People already here at some point are going to want to sell their home, or they'll be dead and their heirs will want/need to sell it. Reducing or eliminating rentals would reduce drastically the number of buyers who actually know from experience what they want and where they want it and how much they need to pay for what they want.

Eliminate rentals and you'll get "Geriatric Estates: Waiting to Die". And what 55-year-old couple about to retire wants to buy a home in a "waiting to die" town, as many here on TOTV described the other 55+ communities they checked out in FL and reviewed in another recent thread??

The only reasonable solution to the perceived problem of too many non-resident owners would be to pass an ordinance saying only up to ____% of the total number of homes can be rentals.

We (hubby & I) have lived here just over 8 months. Yes the restaurants and traffic are busier but I wouldn't have it any other way. I loved the seasonal neighbors, more dancers in the squares, and more opportunities to meet potential friends. Now the neighborhood is quiet, more open tee times ( but we didn't have trouble reserving times this winter), I love it here, I feel very safe and I find myself smiling more. To each their own.

VT2TV, we own our home (no mortgage) and are snowbirds. We never rent it out. We maintain it better than most homes around us. And we definitely aren't here on vacation. We live here and take pride in what we have and do in this great community.

How do you classify us? Are we bad people and don't have as high standards as you.
