If you are an AAA member they have a great route back to RI that gets you off of I-95 just south of Richmond it then takes you thru some scenic areas just a bit away from Shennadoah Nat'l Park. It's about 100 miles longer but beats going thru Baltimore/Washington, NJ turnpike and the ct turnpike.

The system in my Tundra works off the Iphone. Its horribly inaccurate.
The google maps feature on the Iphone is not much better. Put us in Downtown Baltimore on the way south from Rhode Island. In DC, it took the scenic route. Once in Florida, we came thru the Ocala forest. Looking for a location off 441, it brought be along the side of Walmart to the dumpster and said arrived.

I dont need bluetooth, or any cameras. I want to stick to highways on the way back.
Thanks for reading.

I use an Android phone to get me to RI. It uses Google and has saved me time avoiding delays on I-95.
Had Garmin before. It was not consistently accurate but that was years ago.

TO the OP you may want to avoid Apple Maps, I use Google maps on my iPhone and in my experience it's much better. That could be some of the problem i.e. Apple Maps

That sounds great! Baltimore was a nightmare, the signs are horrible.

Driving from Mass to The Villages we use the built in gps in our Nissan. It works great. This one gets us around DC better than any other we have used.

I still use my trusty Michelin and Readers Digest map books, ask the way when I hit the towns, and blame the wife if we get lost!

I use google maps on my Galaxy. Yesterday afternoon, it reported a 2 hour slowdown southbound due to a crash on I95 in Florence SC. Gave me the option to re-route. Went around the crash and kept going. When I re-entered I95 south there was NO traffic headed south.

I am not sure that Iphone has a GPS chip in it. If you are using cell-tower location, you can be a quarter-mile off from where it says you are. With my Galaxy, it knows what lane of traffic I am in.....

I use both Garmin and Waze. Usually trust Waze over Garmin but keep an eye on Garmin in cities because it is exceptional letting me know what lane I need to be in for complicated exits

All modern day iPhones have GPS chips in them.

Unless you update your garmin from your computer or other devices it stinks. My friend traveling from Tampa wound up a half mile away from our home south of 44. When she called being lost she was up by Home Goods by 466& 301

The device cannot update itself, some measure of personal responsibility must exist.
