![]() Sadly that is the way "Battlefield Triage" works...you have to use the resources you have on those who have the best chance of survival. It is sad, but a reality with mass casualty situations. |

Understand Coffeebean, but lets face it, we are not all going to be treated equally. Evidently Angela Merkel has been exposed by her doctor, is in "quarantine status" and per the article, "She will be tested regularly over the coming days and will continue to conduct her duties as chancellor from home."
Figure the odds any of us would get "regular tests". RHIP I suppose. SMH https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/22/chan...ronavirus.html |

Confirmed Cases 59,138 Deaths 5476 That is a fatality rate of 9.3 %. This greatly exceeds the death rate in other countries, so far. I cannot begin to imagine the psychological stress that the health care workers are facing. Seeing that many people die, not having the equipment to do what you are trained to do, and of course the fear that you and your family are next to get ill. Russia is reportedly sending supplies and medical personnel to Italy to help. We are offering aid to North Korea. |

According to Prof Walter Ricciardi, scientific adviser to Italy’s minister of Health Prof Ricciardi added that Italy’s death rate may also appear high because of how doctors record fatalities. “The way in which we code deaths in our country is very generous in the sense that all the people who die in hospitals with the coronavirus are deemed to be dying of the coronavirus. “On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12 per cent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88 per cent of patients who have died have at least one pre-morbidity - many had two or three,” he says" Why have so many coronavirus patients died in Italy? |

From SNOPES.COM: Has Italy Stopped Treating the Elderly in the COVID-19 Pandemic?
What's True Italian health care workers who are overwhelmed with COVID-19 cases could be faced with decisions about allocating limited life-saving treatment to those with the most likelihood to live longest upon survival. What's False However, Italy hasn't abandoned elderly patients to die. Instead, Italian health care workers, when faced with more patients than available equipment and capacity to treat them, may possibly be forced to prioritize treatment of those with the highest likelihood of surviving long-term. |

This story came out a week ago, the hospitals were so overwhelmed and there wasn’t enough life saving equipment for the huge influx of patients. The doctors were put in a position to make decisions who to prioritize.
