Default Solar Pool Heater?

Any thoughts about using a Solar Pool Heater for the pool in our new home?

Until this year, we swam ten months out of twelve. This year we have only been in 5 times since January first.
That said, we are very happy with it. One time cost and for us, when the weather does not allow the solar to get the water temp up to comfort for us, the air temp is also not swimming weather for us anyway.

I think solar panel are very unaesthetic. They would be ok if you lived in the country. To see a house in the villages with its roof covered with panels is the same as lawn gnomes or pink flamingos.Which by the way are not allowed.Get a heat pump.

We are happy with ours! In the winter months we also keep a solar blanket on the pool. Works well for us. Although you can see the panels if you are looking up, the color of the panels blend in with the roof.

absolutely...had solar in my last house. Couldn't have said it better GN, if it's too cold to raise the temp, it's too cold to swim!! (or, get out, I should say)...
Love the flamingos and gnomes, too...I can't stand the big gaudy fountains JK...I almost don't care what you have on your lawn, or what color you paint your doors...it's YOUR house, and the solar panels don't look bad at all. Hell, let's remove all the air conditioners from the side of the houses, who wants to look at them??

"...same as lawn gnomes or pink flamingos..." the minority report has been dully noted!

We use solar plus a gas heater back up which allows using the pool anytime for 11 months of the year....January air temps are just too cold.

Default Solar works for us

We had solar installed when we first moved into our home. Jacks Solar installed it for us and we are very happy with it. For the past two years, we swam April first thru November first, however this year it looks like April first isn't going to happen. It been too cold and not enough sun for the solar to do its job. We like the pool at 88. It got up to 80 so far but too cold for me. Even if I had a gas heater on it it's still too told to get out!! As for the solar panels, it's part of how we heat our pool here in Florida and it's expected to see solar on roofs. I don't even notice it when I drive by homes with pools. Also, heating with gas could get expensive!! Enjoy your pool!

I've been in our pool 4 or 5 times this year. Saturday it got up to 87 degrees with the help of the solar panels. Can't beat that!
