Is it just me or does it seem no one knows how to yield to emergency vehicle?
Seems lights and sirens going and Ive seen too many times to count that a car will just turn in front of the emergency vehicle, or continue through an intersection and could care less about the lights and siren. Seems many have forgotten what to do. |

For anyone who has lived here an appreciable length of time seeing and hearing an emergency vehicle is like repeatedly seeing and hearing an egret. suddenly it all seems to disappear into the landscape. Frequency has that affect on our senses
I do agree with your concern |

Frequency, sound or whatever.....if it was your family member in the ambulance and minutes counting down...not too many would be dismissive if bozo didn't immediately get out of the way.

Ingrained in us. We pulled to the side for a funeral procession in Ohio.

I have seen both: vehicles not yielding and all vehicles yielding. No idea why. I pull over or do what ever I can to get out of the way.

I seen this just a few days ago on 466 and Morse. I was the only one out of around 15 cars to pull over their was an ambulance at a complete stop behind traffic with lights and sirens on and could not get through.

In a retirement community, it may be a combination of deteriorating hearing plus having the radio turned up too loud. It's so simple to give ambulances and fire trucks the room they need to do their important jobs. Thanks for starting the thread; it's a good reminder.

Unless there was an Ohio State football game going on... Then nobody pulled over for anything. (I know this firsthand). Must get to the game!

I think the rule is pull over if you can do it safely. Sometimes, especially on a busy road at a stoplight, all the lanes are already full of cars, and there is nowhere to pull over safely.

Yes. sometimes it is impossible and an attempt to do so may cause an accident.

I was parked at Sothern trace CVS facing the intersection an emergency Vehicle lights on siren blaring had to wait till the light change no one would stop let them make a left turn
Seconds count when saving lives what if this emergency involve one of their loved ones and they past due to someone ingnorance

I see no reason to over-react by pulling over going southbound when the emergency vehicle is northbound and has plenty of room. I'd like to know what the regulations call for though,
