Have the typical Hunter popup sprinkler nozzle. How can I make on of them spray higher to reach a new potted plant that ss about 3 feet high- It only is spraying the bootom og the vase now

Tap your system and install a drip waterer for the potted plant.

Another option is to replace the popup nozzle with a stationary nozzle that is about 3 feet high.

Tinker- how is this done

retired guy- do the stationary nozzles just screw onto the existing pop up head- I have some stationaries that are not watring anything- wondering id I could just swap them with the popup .

Hunter nozzles are usually color coded with a number how far they reach. Red 10 yards and I think yellow 4 yards. So when you go to store read labels and get the length nozzle you want it to reach out. The higher the number the more higher arc the nozzle.

The nozzles screw on and off. But the pop up spring loaded, you either have to hold it in up position while replacement or unscrew the big nut and pull the guts out and replace it.

Plenty of utube video’s on how to adjust, replace and what size nozzles come in.

I think you would need to unscrew the popup pipe, which is screwed into the underground pipe about 6 inches down. And, then screw the stationary pipe into the same place. So you need to dig some dirt from around the popup head and unscrew the pipe. Try not to get dirt into the underground pipe. Still a very easy DIY project.

I wouldn’t want to dig two holes to fix one issue. Just go to Ace and get the length of threaded pipe you need. You can screw the same pop up head back on the top of it or buy a new spray head ( which is what I would do). Get it dug out well so you can see the female fitting that the pop up screws into and be ready to screw the new male threaded pipe in as soon as you remove the other because your hole will get water in it

The distance and height of the throw is the least of your problems. As a pro, I really don't like stationary heads. They are trip hazards and targets for the lawn care folks. Also, lawn heads put out say, 1/4" in 15 minutes. That's not near enough for a pot. TVT has the right idea, install a drip connection. But to be done properly, it should be on it's own zone, so you can install a pressure regulator (drip and bubblers should be under 25 psi), and adjust the time. If you have an existing drip system, you could easily tap in to that and adjust the bubbler for the right amount of water.

I don't think I would want to add an additional zone to my sprinkler system just to water a potted plant. My system has about 8 stationary heads that the builder installed, but they are located in the shrub areas, not where there is grass. They have not been broken. My system also has 2 bubblers that are not on a separate zone. Replacing a popup head with a longer stationary head is a DIY project that I would attempt, but cutting into the line or adding a zone are things that I would hire an expert to do.

run a microline , lowes sells a 'manifold' that would attach below your sprinkler head then you just run the line up to the plant, etc. a word of caution, most micro sprayers should only be on for 8 minutes or less due to volume of water dispensed.

It’s so easy, and you don’t need to put an extra station in or a regulator. I have done the following procedure numerous times when adding a drip system to an existing zones. I just ordered 2 Rain Bird Irrigation Riser Adapter Drip and Sprinkler Watering, Female 1/2" Male Pipe Thread x 1/4" Barbed End, 1/2" x 1/2" x, Black pieces (you can order it from lowes, Amazon, or Home Depot for $4 each). You dig up a sprinkler head near where your pot is make sure the hole is a little deeper and wider than the pop up sprinkler so when you unscrew the head, you want any water in the line to be able to drain back in the pipe. Attach a drip hose line to the adapter and make it long enough to go up into the middle of your pot. Mark the top of the sprinkler so when you screw the head back on it is positioned the sway way it was before removal. Unscrew the head and let it drain. Screw on the adapter and position the drip line up. Then screw on the sprinkler head and align the head based on your mark. Fill the hole with dirt.
Now bury the drip line or put it under your mulch and run it up into your pot.
Now you will need a drip system bubbler or spray in your pot. I have used both. You can buy a bubbler head that restricts the amount of water per minute. I have had many plants in a large pot that required me to put a drip splitter that allowed me to put multiple bubblers in 1 pot. Bubblers are < $1. Pretty easy
