The really sad part of this whole Sumter debacle is those who can, those in the 65-75 range, are getting vaccinated somewhere. It’s our oldest residents that are waiting for it to come here as they aren’t up for the hunt.

Statewide 25 % those in the 85+ age bracket as well as 25% of those in the 75-84 bracket have at least one vaccination. In Sumter county only 15.7% of those over 85 have gotten the first vaccination. For those in the 75-84 it jumps to 18.8%. For those 65-75 we are closing in on the state average at 23.2%.

There are just too many knowns to know or communicate nothing.

Something is starting to smell.
The lack of info is infuriating

To reply to the OP. I. signed up last week to the website he mentioned.
I specified Sumter County which was the first question.
One hour ago I got a call saying I could have an appointment and it was at the shopping mall in Leesburg near the airport.
The appointment is for this next Tuesday.

You don't "cheat" anyone out of their spot. If your name come up and you have secured a vaccine appointment in another county you just pass. Otherwise this is a state program and anyone living in the state is allowed to go anywhere in the state to get their vaccine. For those who are in serious need of the vaccine for medical reasons, be aggressive and find a place to get it ASAP. If you are healthy, then maybe you can just register in one county and wait...Your call.

Like anything with the lack of planning causes chaos. Everyone is so focused on themselves in getting vaccinated and the system can’t keep up with the disorder. Wait your turn!!!!

I don't think it would be cheating to register in each county. All of the individual county programs will provide an appointment for any state resident. Just my opinion.
After you register inone county you will find out you are about 50,000 down on the list. Registering in multiple counties jusr clogs the system for everyone. Just keep watch for new sites and jump on it. Everyone will eventually get it. We have all gone for almost a year without it already!

The majority of the first allotment for Sumter was sent to UF to vaccinate front line medical workers. Allotment appears to be based on the counties infection rate. Per capita in Florida Sumter residents have held their own against the virus even with the high average age for the county. The vaccine has become an apparent dog fight amongst the populous. Many states are fighting behind the scenes to get extra doses for their state. The entire situation has become a huge mess due to a panicking population. On the other side of the coin it has become a huge political stance for those that will be seeking reelection in the coming year.

Also be aware every nation in the world is seeking the same vaccines we are seeking. I am sure major pharma is making as much vaccine as they possibly can as it is a huge profit maker.

Distribution across the globe has to be a logistical nightmare.

I suggest keep on doing what has kept you healthy over the last year. Be proactive looking for an appointment but stop panicking.

Registered my wife on statewide system on Friday. Really very easy. Declared Sumter County. About 7 sites came up . For example St. Leo College was one. It was full so we selected Orange County and "many" dates and times came up. Her appointment is next Saturday 10AM in Orlando. Surprised by the comments above about how bad the system is.
BTW I agree that the Sumter County Health Dept. has really dropped the ball but you should take into account that Sumter is 37th by population in FL.

The people signing up for vaccines on every available site are the same people who hoarded toilet paper last year.

When they hoard toilet paper other people don’t get any toilet paper. When they sign up on all sites they only get to take one, the other appointments go back into circulation for everyone else.

I’m really pleased the statewide site does not limit choices to the county you signed up in, and gives you the choice to travel a bit for the vaccine.

I believe the vaccine is being diverted to other people with connections - money, political, friends of people in charge, etc. The developer and his family and friends are a small example. If you look at the number of vaccines in Palm Beach it's a LOT. Follow the money.
