Excellent point and you are correct. Using RR as an example, because it only affects one person - is not appropriate in this case.

They are both viruses from 2 different viral families
They both had effective vaccines
they were both primarily spread by aerosols/droplets
Smallpox had a small # of breakthrough cases that were mild
COVID has a small # of breakthrough cases that are also milder (but with the new variants the final numbers are not yet in)

Smallpox had no animal reservoirs
And to my knowledge, smallpox did not have a hoard of anti-vaxxers

And like all pandemics, this one will end as well, and much quicker than hundreds of years ago due primarily to VACCINES

Get it now?
Do you get it? We have open borders, unvaccinated entry daily and a huge population out there with covid vaccine breakthrough and continued viral load in the vaccinated. Small pox vaccination was begun approximately in 1802 and was finally eradicated in 1976 with no mammal/animal transmission.

BTW, smallpox vaccine is the only vaccine to ever eradicate a disease.

We do not have open borders.

Per Pew Research:

Migrant encounters at U.S.-Mexico border are at a 21-year high,

The U.S. Border Patrol reported nearly 200,000 encounters with migrants along the U.S.-Mexico border in July, the highest monthly total in more than two decades.

Per CNN:

The CBP told CNN that migrants taken into custody are required to wear face masks provided by the agency and that if "anyone exhibits signs of illness in CBP custody, they are referred to local health systems for appropriate testing, diagnosis, and treatment."

*Required to wear face masks... which golfing eagles has told us do not provide protection from covid.

Per CBS August 10th, 2021:

So many people are crossing into the U.S. right now, there's no room for them in actual buildings, and with COVID in mind, decision-makers believe this is the best option.

Once agents process those migrants, most will board buses and head to a local park turned into a temporary tent city, run by the city of McAllen and Catholic Charities. The first thing that happens straight off the bus is COVID testing.

Catholic Charities Director Sister Norma Pimentel told CBS News correspondent Mireya Villarreal migrants testing positive for COVID has been overwhelming.

"It got to a point where that space is not even that readily available because there are so many of them," Pimentel said.

The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that approximately only 68% of illegal border crossers may be caught and that estimate may be low.
