I don't think you were stiffed. The first buyer who shows up with the cash gets the item. A verbal promise to buy on the phone isn't worth anything.

Are we sure of this? I have heard several cases where elderlies accept cash deposits on their houses only to refuse to return the deposits when they change their minds about selling the house.

It is beyond me that anyone would go through the hassle of selling an item or two for a few bucks instead of taking it to a charity. For one thing, I would never let a stranger into my house. Secondly I would not want to be kept waiting and waiting for the buyer to show up..

What really bothers me is the people who sell items for way more than they are worth. Recently, someone wanted $500 for a 10 year old 50 inch plasma tv. The Salvation Army won't even accept tvs that are more than 5 years old. Also, furniture is often priced for more half what someone paid for it years ago. If you are selling something, price it reasonably.

It's apparent that an agreement to pay isn't worth anything to this seller.

Unless you had a handshake, there was no agreement. Technology has changed how we interact, the price we pay for convenience.

And what price can be put on honesty and integrity?...something this seller seems to care nothing about.

Again, the guy has probably already been stiffed and he doesn’t know you. We know longer live in a world where if someone looks and talks like us can we trust them, which I do remember perceiving the world as a child and held onto that notion for quite some time. I’ve been burned by a Villager who was a lot less than honest on a fairly large purchase. My ignorance in not knowing what to look for made me feel like a chump. Everyone screws up now and then. Chalk it up as a learning experience and move on.

This is very true but unfortunately a fact of life and you just have to suck it up and deal with it. Just move on. This should be the worst thing that ever happens in your life.

You see lack of honesty and integrity everywhere in our society these days from the bottom to the top.

Trust in sellers here would have tanked if it was not for Whooter whose transaction was super in spite of his being so ill! Luv ya guy! Hope you're feeling better!
Not good, definitely a Bummer but you know as I do that when stupid things like this happen that the next opportunity is much better. Not many people are from the old school anymore. Don't change because of this Fugazi Deal. I'm glad that people like you still think your word means something, because it does.

Just a thought . . .

Perhaps you should post post exactly what happened in a case such as this and also post the person's name.
They would deserve it!

That’s an awful idea.
