I'm having trouble believing that this post is serious. I'm in complete agreement with Talk Host. I don't live in TV yet, but every day I see more and more people in my neighborhood doing more than a slow roll at the neighborhood stop signs. Many (and I mean many) blow through them like they aren't even there. I have been a motorcycle enthusiast most of my life, and three years ago I had to sell my Honda Shadow, due to the sheer number of people I saw every day ignoring the rules of the road and "only" rolling through stop signs. Frankly the number of people driving SUVs and running red lights with cell phones stuck in their ears was a major factor as well. I was afraid for my life, and could no longer feel safe on my motorcycle. I'm a dyed in the wool conservative libertarian, but I want the police out there ticketing these crazy drivers before they kill me or a member of my family. Just last week a co-worker of mine, a good, hard working man, forty-four years old with a wife and kids was killed while driving his motorcycle to work - hit by a young woman driving a van with a suspended license (her license had been suspended several times), but I suppose you think any attempt to fine her was simply the thievery of the police taking money away from a good citizen. Good grief.

I do not see the logic behind your statement.

Is there any one on this forum who can honestly state that they always stop at stop signs and always obey every traffic law? Remember, if you do 36 on Buena Vista, you are speeding, so be honest.
I agree with those who say it is for safety, and I disagree with those who say the police are stealing money by ticketing lawbreakers, but let's get real here. We all do it at times. Can anyone honestly say that they NEVER break a traffic law? Really?

I came to TV from St. Louis, MO. We (Saint Louisans) have (had) a reputation for the "rolling stop." If the fuzz weren't visible, then it'd be okay to slow down to a crawl, then keep on going.
I must admit to being guilty of still following that philosophy many times here in TV! The key is, I think, "If the fuzz aren't visible . . ." ![]() SWR ![]()

I've always heard of the rolling stop being referred to as a "California Stop". Must be pretty bad out there!!

I know that some of you will not believe this.
I stop completely at all stop signs and red traffic signals. That is, my tires stop rotating completely. I look both ways, then look both ways again before I proceed. I'm curious, here in Florida, the prosecutable blood alcohol content for drivers is .08%. If a person is at that level or higher, should they be stopped and arrested, or if there are no cops around, it's okay? Now, driving and staying in the passing lane then driving 15 miles per hour slower than the speed limit.....that's okay. ![]() JLK |

OK, I'll bite. If people are judged to be stopped at an intersection based on their wheels coming to a complete stop, I wonder how many people would be guilty of a rolling stop because you slowed to 1/4 MPH. TH, driving in the left lane 15 MPH under the speed limit is not a ticketable offense...gn

I have a different slant on that - California is the only state where I got stopped for rolling through a stop sign. (Over 40 years ago!) So if it is a "California Stop" maybe it's because if you don't stop at the sign a police officer will have you stop a little further down the road.

Oh, and I can't tell you how many times I've seen bicyclists go between cars, run stop signs and red lights, ride on the wrong side of the street and lots more. Bicyclists are the worst offenders of the "law". But that's a whole new thread. I'll continue to drive as I have for the last 40 years and take my chances but I'll look twice for a cop before I roll through a stop sign at 1 mph in TV. ![]() |

TH, it might be illegal in some states (can you tell us which ones for future reference) but for this discussion I thought we were were talking about TV....gn
