We were in our golf cart going north on Buena Vista in the vicinity of Arnold Palmer CC early this afternoon. An ambulance, with its siren sounding and lights flashing, was approaching from the south. There must have been 20 vehicles ahead of that ambulance at the time, all of whom could easily hear the siren and see the lights on that long stretch of highway. Only 2 pulled over to allow it to pass! They all had ample time and space to do so, but instead held the ambulance back. We have seen this far, far too often recently in TV.
SHAME ON THOSE WHO DID NOT PULL OVER!!! And those who did not, think about this: If you've ever had a loved one, clinging to life, either waiting for the EMT's or being rushed to the hospital, you might be a little less self-involved. Certainly, you'd expect everyone else to make way for them. Nothing - and no one - is so important that he or she has the right to impede an emergency vehicle! The same goes for police vehicles. They have the right of way! You don't! IT'S THE LAW! |

this sort of tells you of the values of the people who live here......
where I am from, South Carolina, when a funeral passes by everyone on the other side of the street stops and pulls over in respect till the last car with its lights on passes by. This just happened once again when I was passing thru Okeechobee the other day on the way to Miami. It reminded me of the values that people used to have and how they are so lost these days. Someday, that fire, police or ambulance might be on its way to you, and wouldn't you have liked others to move over so the medical attention could get to you quicker. People need to get back to Mayberry ways......the world was so much kinder back then.... |

I've been here for more than 8 years and have never seen that happen in TV.

I haven't seen what you saw. My house backs to Morse and out of our living room slider I can see ambulances heading north and south. Cars do move out of the way. When in the circles, there might be a slight delay since there might not be any room to move out of the way.
Always glad to hear those sirens...it's a comfort to those who need the ambulance to hear it coming. |

Put dash cams in ambulances. Record who doesn't pull over. Give recording to police and they issue a ticket. Not a 20.00 ticket. A 500.00 ticket. Simple.

Funny you should mention it; as my husband and I watched in disbelief, that's the first thing that came to mind. I wish we'd had our dash cam on the cart today...one white sedan in particular, which penned the ambulance in for at least a quarter of a mile, would be sitting in jail as we speak.

I have seen this behavior all over Florida since we moved here 25 years ago. I came from New York State. In NYS we pulled over and came to a complete stop even if the siren was coming from the opposite direction (unless it was a divided highway). I have no idea what the law requires in Florida.

There you have it, you read it here on TOTV. Those drivers not pulling over are not from South Carolina or the state of New York.
