Default Must have been confused

Today while driving south on Morse Blvd towards CR 466 I noticed someone driving northbound in a Smart Car in the Diamond lane which is marked for Golf carts & bicycles. Was not making a right turn and was not passing a vehicle waiting to make a left turn. All I could think of was this person in the Smart car must have thought he/she was driving a golf cart.

Watch out folks they're out there and they are on the road.

We can make Smart cars but haven't figured out how to make smart drivers. In the immortal words of Sgt. Phil Esterhaus from the Hill Stree Blues,
"Hey.....let's be careful out there!"

Maybe the driver thought the diamond lane was just another lane to drive in- not knowing the rules of the road. Hey! When I first visited The Villages, I broke all the rules. How I was to know otherwise? You learn one way of driving and then you come to TV there are different rules that compensate for golf carts.

When people come visit me now, I try to forewarn about road policy before they get here.

I remember one time when I was driving my car and took a right turn and entered the golf cart lane forgetting that I was in my car. Of course I immediately corrected myself. You sometimes get so used to being in the golf cart lane that it's second nature to do something like that.

When I first visited I thought I'd be smart and just follow someone who looked like they knew what they were doing. Sheesh! I was probably following Tom!

Thanks for sharing that with us, John. Next time I do it (yes I have done it) I won't feel like The Lone Ranger.

About 3 years ago traveling down buena vista, at dawn, on cart path just passed Bridgeport when I saw a set of headlights. suddenly realized some guy in a Lexus convertible was heading right at me at about 40mph. Three of us pulled onto the grassas this bald headed guy with a bandana around his head went by with the top down

OMG! I thought I was the only one that did that and I'm only 58! I especially have that problem when I've mainly been using the golf cart and switch to the car. I've also had the opposite problem: using the cart after recently using the car, turning left onto Odell and forgetting to get over to the cart lane. Yes, let's be careful out there.

I will be a first time golf cart driver in July. The lanes with the Diamond patterns are for golf carts and bicycles only? Thanks in advance!
