Default Tangible Personal Property Tax in Lake County when renting out home

Can anyone enlighten me about the Tangible Personal Property Tax when renting out a manufactured home in the Villages, located in Lake County. I applied for a business license from Lake County in order to pay the hotel sale's tax. I received the business license and then received the Tangible Personal Property Tax Form to fill out. It asks some questions, I don't know how to answer. Besides filling in the value of the stove, rerigerator, furniture, drapes, and appliances, it asks for the cost of installing the carport, utility shed and porch....the original costs & installation plus the current value today. How is one to know this? I inherited the home from my folks, so these things were included. I would have no idea what they paid for those things or the current value today. Have any of you had to fill out this form? and can you give me some advice? Thanks for your help.

I have had similae questions dalecrenshaw, as well as others, in three Florida counties. I have found the best way to get an answer is visit your county tax collector's office. The three counties I have dealt with do not include Lake but I have found all of them willing to help.

The down side is the possibility you may have to wait. I found it worth the wait as I know I will have the correct answer.

Take a look at this site FL Dept Rev - Tangible Personal Property Guidelines

I didn't look into the site but it may contain some info that would be helpful to you.

You might also try filling out the form as best you can and submitting it with a covering letter explaining your problem.

Have any of you who rent your home in The Villages submitted a Tangible Property Tax form - Sumter County in particular? If so, can you share what you learned - who has to submit a form? was your property assessed? how much did you have to pay (if anything)?

if you want to rent it you need to go to the FL DOR (Department of Revenue) for information about paying the state and local tax. One check every month covers both. They have a web site.

We are not talking about the state and local sales tax on rentals. I pay those every month I rent out our home. The question is about "Tangible Personal Property". Some of us have received a "Tangible Personal Property tax" form that asks us to list all furnishings, appliances, drapes, supplies, etc. and what they cost new and what the value is now. Then you are taxed on them. This is the first time I have received this form and want to know if anyone else has received one and if this is something that everyone has to submit when renting out their home for a few months.

We haven't received anything for our home in Sumter County but our home is rented unfurnished.

Mom did have to do paperwork on the contents of our condo on St. Augustine Beach for many years – St. John's County. I think we bought that condo in 2004.

We just received the information for Sumter County and how to submit funds monthly. The property is furnished and we did not receive anything related to tangible property. I'm afraid I am of no help to you, but would appreciate if you would keep us posted on your findings.
