For those who own a Tesla what is the cost of the annual maintenance, I know there are no oil changes and other maintenance required ICE but I'm just curious.

No kidding… you just don’t get it do you!

If it were not for the FSD supervised I probably would not by a Tesla or any EV. I would just get a nice hybrid. The FSD is a game changer. It’s not about saving money.

I’m waiting for mine to arrive, but as I understand the only thing you need is a tire rotation at 7k and keep the washer fluid up. A brake fluid flush at four years. You also need to use the brakes occasionally to keep the rotors clean. Most braking is done by regeneration.

But what are you spending on annual maintenance for the Teslas with FSD that you do own?

FSD is not maintenance. It’s a feature you can buy monthly, on demand, or not at all. It’s like buying a car and subscribing to satellite radio.

Maintenance on a Tesla involves tire rotation, cabin filter changes, tire pressure checks, new tires when they ware out. Maybe a wheel alignment at some point.

I easily installed a Splitter in my garage attached to my 240 volt dryer outlet. Tops up my battery in a few hours.

Not mentioned so far is insurance. I have State Farm auto which gives me a discount if I use a tracker. With FSD my driving stats (acceleration, braking, cornering, speed, etc) are approaching perfect.

Life is good.
I installed a 240v 30amp circuit in my garage when I first moved here, it was for a HD compressor that I brought from my home In Ohio. I just checked and it should give me 26 miles per hour of charge, more than enough for my intended use. I have no plans to travel with the car but after watching many YouTube videos I would not be concerned

Just a warning to those using a 240v dryer outlet. You need to make sure that it is certified for long term continuous charging. That creates a good amount of heat over time. A dryer is not running continuously. It would be wise to replace the outlet with one certified for EV charging. They cost about $80 or less at HD. If you are not going to do that please check the outlet for excessive heat after you have been charging for a while. There are videos explaining the the potential dangers of using a dryer outlet.

I agree with what you said, but mine is a 30amp not a Nema 14-50. If I were using a dryer outlet I would certainly follow your suggestion. I will be charging at a lower rate, but will still keep an eye on it at the beginning.

Correct… I think there was someone who said that they were using their dryer outlet.
What cord are you using to charge with?

I’m going to use the furnished cable but with a Nema 6-30 adapter from AZ.

JR, I agree. Most just don't get how dangerious it can be to charge an EV without the proper outlet. Even 30 amps continuous can be a problem in some cases. The best is to hardwire the charger or wall connector then you don't have to worry about the receptical. If you have to use a receptical, spend the money and get the one rated for EV charging.

There are many who get their Tesla wall connectors installed correctly by a licensed electrician or themselves with a permit and other's who want to save a few bucks. Looking at the big picture, it's not worth cheaping out to avoid this relatively small extra cost to install whatever electrical is needed to avoid a potential fire or problem with your insurance company if ever something happened. If you do everything yourself it's $125 in Sumter to get the work permitted.

Also, no matter what you decide to do, make sure you torque all the connections. No matter what rate you charge at, the connections will get warm or hot. Over time a connection that's not tight enough can loosen and then you can have a potential fire. If you overtighten the connection you can crush the conductor and flatten it so you will have less current capacity at that connection leading to potential overheating. There are many YouTube video's on the topic showing this stuff really happens to more people than you would expect.

Road tripping to Illinois today and this guy decided to zoom from the merge lane into the left lane. In heavy traffic. In construction. The car did its thing and avoided a crash. I love this thing.

There are many reasons to buy a Tesla, and that is one. There is also one reason to not buy one. I reluctantly ignored that one and ordered the car.

The latest battery technology from Tesla (late 2025 onward) used in the long-range models will outlast the car no matter how you charge / discharge the NMC battery. If you really want to nurse the battery then charge to 70% but it is no longer necessary to achieve 25 year calendar life. Cheap to run (3 cents per mile electricity) and just replace tires and wiper blades once in a while. No more getting ripped off in the Stealership service department during scheduled service which will save you many 1000s over 25 years.

EVs just make sense for retirees in Florida. Also, look at Toyota/Subaru latest EV offerings.

Also, crude oil bubbles up from the earth and resides FAR deeper than any fossil. Hydrocarbons are not "Fossil Fuel". Fossil fuel is a 150 year old myth.
