If I ever decide to buy anything besides a traditional ICE vehicle it would be a Toyota Hybrid. Toyota has figured out the hybrid technology better than any other manufacturer. That being said, our last vehicle purchase came down to either a Honda HRV and a Hybrid Toyota Corolla Cross. After an extensive research, contemplating our driving needs/conditions/requirements, comfort level and confidence, and long term economics, we went with the Honda.

Yep, I get the same mpg, 55+, driving a 2016 Prius. Love to look at that daily gas record & see the mileage.
I want a new car, hybrid for sure!. but mileage seems lower now on new hybrid Prius, Toyota Corolla Crossover hybrid & hybrid Hondas. My research suggests that hybrids & EVs are great for around town driving. Guess that means around TV where I rarely break 55 mph. Makes me happy. For highway, however, we only get about 49 mpg.

We have a 2024 Model 3, our first EV. Bottom line we LOVE it. It's so easy to drive and wonderful all around. We have a garage charger and typically charge twice weekly. So quick. Maintenance is wiper fluid and tires.

I wonder how many here, with negative comments have ACTUALLY ridden or drove a Tesla?

There is still so much FUD out there about Tesla. And wonder if there are STILL Musk-haters out there?

And Tesla's future focus is Robotics and CyberCab.

My neighbor had issues with the gates until he Tesla finely learned how to handle it. The FSD is truly amazing. Not sure my wife would be able to handle all the tech on the car. She has enough trouble using her cell phone. But I want one!

JR, once you get the car configured, its as simple as pressing a button telling the car where you want to go then hitting another button engaging the self drive that gets you there. Very simple.

Interesting that no one mentioned the Tesla is one of the safest cars to drive? I believe it passes every crash test unlike many other vehicals.

Toyota hybrid decisions and how hybids work in general is fascinating. There is a video from TechnologyConnections (videos on how things work and why) that goes over it all. From the Otto cycle, Atkinson cycle, to EVs, Hybrid cars and planetary gears. It is a bit long and the presenter is long winded but precise in his explanation. I had a new level of understanding after watching it. Tough it out for new understanding. A good beer or fine scotch may help.

My wife has one of the hybrids mentioned (not a plug in), a 2018 Toyota RAV4, that gets 34-37 mph. Nice car. Not to mention the reliability. If only the public understood the types of systems and how they operated to make an informed choice.

The physical design and crash test data all rate very high. The results are not so clear on the software (autopilot and FSD).

I suspect some of the autopilot and FSD issues are marketing related. The names of the capabilities imply no driver interaction is required though that is not the case. It could be that driver inattention contributed to many of the Tesla crashes.
