You could put a 5 gal bucket over the clubs and lock that down through the handle or drill holes in it. May not stop a determined thief but should stop a casual thief.

Another deterrent. Have the name "Lefty" embroidered on the bag.

Sure, use a cheap piece of plastic that snaps on, rather than a piece of ripstop nylon that includes a cable lock...

And while I've not done the math, I've read about full sets of clubs being stolen quite often...

Add to that, a decent driver can cost $250-$600... A Scotty Cameron putter goes for $400-$500...

Why are you so against making it LESS attractive to try and steal something?

Only ONE person asked how to secure ONE CLUB. Everyone else gave advice about securing ALL YOUR CLUBS...

No one said "lock up A club"...

None of the suggestions given were to lock up A club...

Suggestions were given on how to secure ALL of your clubs, since while there are times when only one club is stolen, there are also times when the entire bag is stolen.

Securing the ENTIRE BAG also secures the ONE CLUB...

YOU are the only one harping on the ONE CLUB theory in an attempt to save face...

Your suggestion to use the rain cover that comes with the bag is a lousy suggestion, since it is designed to protect the clubs FROM RAIN, not THEFT.

Your claim that they could easily cut thru the cable lock cover is silly. It's not a cheap piece of nylon (like the rain cover)

Just as pulling the retractable cover over items the back of your SUV doesn't entice someone to try to break in to see what's under it. A thief will look for items in the open, so they know if the juice is worth the squeeze...

Is golf club (s) theft an epidemic at Colony?

Over the years clubs and carts have been stolen all over the Villages. The guys down in Bushnell do their job and a big percentage of the time, get the clubs and arrest the bad guys.

Title of this thread implies all hell is breaking loose.

Regardless, unless I'm going straight home and not stopping for lunch, I pull the locking cover over my clubs and re-lock the cable... I typically leave the cover locked to the frame and stuffed in the cart basket... Takes all of 30 seconds. The key to the cable lock is on the keychain with my cart key.

If I'm not playing golf, the clubs come off the cart and are stored in the garage.

Are my methods foolproof? Probably not, but why make it easier for a thief? Let them move on to the next cart with the unsecured clubs...

Been going on for as long as I can remember, seems to kind of "cycle", a rash of such "grab and goes" and then not as much for awhile. I remember years ago being on a tread mill upstairs at the health club in Spanish Springs. Happen to just be gazing out at the parking lot behind the theater, and noticed a car pull up, two people jump out, one opened trunk while other removed set of clubs from parked cart. I called 911 but thought they would be long gone, so had the color, made model and "most" of the license plate number (while asking myself why a criminal would leave a license plate on the car they use for theft ? But anyway, they did. I watched them drive away long before the police could arrive (I thought !) but.... the car only moved to another area of the theater lot and repeated the SAME ACT... by then the police arrived and caught them "in the act" as they say. For years some people have used "deterrents", like the steel cables some use to secure their bicycles. None of these "deterrents", like alarms that go off when clubs touched, and the cables, are theft PROOF... but if criminals see a cable that has to be cut, or an alarm to deal with, they will simply move to an easier and quicker "target", so it "could" save you. Many people do not want to return their clubs to their home and THEN meet friends to eat, or they want to make a quick stop at a grocery or drug store on the way home from golf ! It's always a gamble, thieves are everywhere, including the Villages ! Inhuman perhaps, but effective, might be a deterrent that delivers a considerable electric SHOCK !

Yep, where there is a will there is a way, deterrents can help "usually", better than nothing. Criminals know how to size up the easiest "target". I teased hubby, told him he should buy same yellow, pink, and white bag as I have, nine times out of 10, thieves do NOT want a a set of ladies clubs, even if top of the line...LOL ! Buy ladies pastel bag, keep cover ON, and you might have some protection for those new Calloways, Pings, Tour Edge, etc. LOL !

That is another good one, no guarantee of course, but worth a try !

Why you can get (probably ?) get up to $50 at a pawn shop in Ocala for a $1,000-$1200 set of clubs, don't drink beer so not sure, but seems the would buy at least two cases for an addict ?
