We live under the benign dictatorship of the Morse Family here in the Villages. Whatever they decide kind of goes.

I see an attack as possible but highly improbable on one of the Villages' Squares unless it is while some dignitary is visiting. And the powers that be would be best to keep these kind of visits under the radar as much as possible. They do have a lot of security here too when VIPs visit.

Did you mean benevolent dictatorship? Benign would work too, I guess.

Benign seems to fit more than benevolent.

If you are getting paranoid about this, they win. If you want to spend your "Golden Years" worrying about things beyond your control, then you'll miss your "Golden Years". What will be, will be. Live and let live. And please clean up your dog poop. Peace!

I do worry about Islamic terrorism. I just don't worry so much about The Villages being a target.

I am not an actuary but I suspect the odds in this community of getting run over by someone having a "medical event" far exceed the possibility of being hit by a truck driven by a terrorist.

I believe it was last year that a car jumped the curb across from the Lake Sumter Landing sales office when the driver hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

The car was stopped by the large stone planter on the square's edge. Luckily, this was not at an entertainment time.

More planters or other decorative barriers would be a good addition to the squares for added protection against our own drivers - not terrorists.

You hear hitting the gas instead of the brake excuse in an aging population no matter where.you go. Decorative barriers....not a bad idea.

The Morse Family won't even buy bins to recycle plastics and aluminum cans at the squares--do you think they would spend money on something where there is no monetary return for them?

They could have Megan Boone's husband/partner Dan Estabrook do some of the art work on the three squares that could double as barriers of some kind- statues of people you would expect to see in these fantasy places that have been created for the Villages. People like cowboys, saloon girls, merchants from the 1880s, magicians, etc. And that might put in quite more of a demand for Boone's partner's art. Dan Estabrook | Photography Artist | Jackson Fine Art

Or they could promote some other artist's work and get money for doing that.

Recycling is not worth the trouble and expense. It costs more to recycle than to throw things away. Recycling has been a "feel good" exercise for decades, but is now losing its appeal.

A study in New York City showed that glass, metal and plastic recycling costs New York $240 per ton, almost double what it costs to just throw it away.

Perhaps the "Morse Family" realizes that at the Squares the public would negligently throw ordinary trash into recycle bins making the contents ineligible for running through the recycle machinery.

But, there are always some people who prefer to think the worst of the "Morse Family."
