Default Tire marks on driveways and other horrible things.

When we came down with the trailer a couple of months ago to "nest" in our new house in Hadley, we were deluged by people who knocked on the door, pitching their bug service, grass cutting, downspouts etc. I was particularly taken with someone who wanted to finish or stain the driveway and I said that I was new to that kind of thing, people in Cincinnati just left them plain. (And I would like to point out that we don't live in a slum) He looked perplexed and said you will get tire marks! Well there are tiremarks, the hot sun seems to encourage them in Florida, but I am wondering if we are going to be the only kids on the block without a frou frou driveway. It isn't that I am not into decorating, but so far on HGTV there hasn't been a segment on doing your driveway. I have seen some pretty fancy ones and some pavers that are pretty to me, but it isn't on my list of things to do even if we won the lottery. ( I have to remember to buy a ticket) Anyway, is it a southern thing, or a retirement thing, or what. Talk to me about driveways.

I've lived in Atlanta and Little Rock and never saw anything done with a driveway other than occasionally pavers, so I think it's a Florida thing

They do it in Arizona, too, and it's just another thing to keep clean.

Hmmmmmmmm........ , just wondering if having a tire-scuffed-up driveway in TV would be a code violation? Interesting! So many things to consider as a prospective TVer..... I'll have to put that in my note book! And, BTW...... did the driveway stain-guy say how much it would cost? Just curious.

Treating the driveway is a do or don't do thing. If you ride around, you will find some that have the driveway decorated and some that don't. Some have the paving blocks. It depends on what you want to do. If you do get it painted, be sure to get it sealed or the color will fade after a while. If you do the paver blocks, be warned that they do crack and you will have to replace them at your own expense. My next door neighbor has the paver blocks and the style ran out so she had to hunt down replacement blocks.

Also, even with the painting. etc, you will still get tire tracks from the heated tar on the road.

If you live in a villa, you probably cannot have your driveway decorated. Villa rules. Because the driveways are connected, it cannot be done as an individual effort.

Putting pebble size Chattahoochee River Rock in an Epoxy layer over the concrete drive is another big seller in TV

And the best idea? Leave it as is, spend the money on something else, and once a year pressure wash the concrete. Looks like new again. Anything else you do is one more thing to maintain. Epoxy paint on the garage floor reduces maintenance, doing anything on your driveway increases maintenance and costs money.

Be sure and seal the concrete. It'll keep the salt from pocking the surface.

GG I don't think they use salt here. Just sand. ;D Back to the subject - I thought of painting the driveway but will have one vehicle sitting outside on the driveway so whats the sense? I'll play this one by ear.
