What am I missing? I think TV has always used PVC. So the "clock" basically is an ad for PVC versus iron pipes. So why all the water main leaks/breaks? It does seem to be frequent in TV.

As to cheap items in homes, I think the water cut-off valves at sinks and toilets in many homes qualifies. Roof ridge vent covers in some homes as well. Double-hung windows. Clothes racks in closets with inadequate support. General lack of storage space. But I am only mentioning such things because you seemed to doubt such things existed here. I do not regret buying my house, and I accept it for what it is, good and bad, but improving it as things develope. I posted here only to find out about water main leaks, not complain about house construction.

If you want to see cheap construction simply tour Stonecrest. Wood construction made to look like concrete and not done well. From 20' looks ok, from 2' not so much.

The homes here are built to the local codes which may differ from codes elsewhere. I also think that the different types of homes have different things offered as standard. I don't recall if our first home here had Kohler bath fixtures and Kichler light fixtures, but this one does and we chose our second home in part for the storage. This second home has wide base molding and ten foot ceilings and the first one did not. I think that the variety of choices and prices are quite good.


As to the reason why water main's break, MY guess is sinkholes which cause wide spread panic. They are common to central Florida but they scare the hell out of people...including me. You buys your ticket, you takes your chances. We also live in Florida, the lightning capital of the U.S. The Florida advertising doesn't talk much about that either.

A high water pressure could cause more failures. Is the water pressure in TV higher than where you came from?
