So now I have the important essentials in my closet in the bathroom...doggies leash, snacks for them, shoes, sweater, pocketbook and medication. Jeanne, you are right on target with your plan. As I have posted before presently, until we move fulltime to TV, we live smack in tornado alley, and during the spring & fall live constant warnings/alerts/watches. The bathroom is the safest place in a home for a tornado. Don't forget to bring your cell phone with you also, cause if your house gets hit you can call for help if buried in the ruble.
And yes they can last awhile if conditions are right. There have been times that we have warnings of possible tornados for 8-10, even 12 or more hours straight. Army Guy
