Our weather radio did go off this morning but it wasn't until several minutes after we had already received the Sumter County Code Red Weather Warning phone calls (land line and cell). It was about 5am when the phone rang, because it was 5:02 by the time I got the tv tuned in to Tony on WESH 2. We actually questioned why the radio had not gone off, but then it finally did. Jeanne, grabbing the dogs and huddling in the bathroom is a good idea. Always try to stay in an interior part of your home away from exterior walls. If you didn't do it, I'd suggest putting your dogs' leash on so they can't get away from you and go hide. That was the first thing I did after jumping out of bed is to put the leash on the dog and hold on to her. Grabbed my purse, my husband's wallet, our cell phones and shoes to put on. If there should be damage and debris from a storm you don't want to be walking around barefoot.

Fortunately it was a fast moving storm and passed quickly with no damage. I was here in 2007 and know what can happen so I take all warnings very seriously.

I just love TOTV, such a friendly place and a wealth of information. Thanks all for all your information about tornados. I did get the Code Red Alert, next is the weather radio, I have heard they have them at Publix and Radio Shack.

English Ivy I want to thank you for that excellent advice! I was so scared I didnt even think about that. You are absolutely right! So now I have the important essentials in my closet in the bathroom...doggies leash, snacks for them, shoes, sweater, pocketbook and medication. Now that I think about it...if the tornado is a doozie and lasts awhile....I suppose a shot of something strong wouldnt hurt either lol!! However, I sure hope we dont have to use it!!

Jeanne, you are right on target with your plan. As I have posted before presently, until we move fulltime to TV, we live smack in tornado alley, and during the spring & fall live constant warnings/alerts/watches. The bathroom is the safest place in a home for a tornado. Don't forget to bring your cell phone with you also, cause if your house gets hit you can call for help if buried in the ruble.
And yes they can last awhile if conditions are right. There have been times that we have warnings of possible tornados for 8-10, even 12 or more hours straight.

Jeanne, they sell the weather radios everywhere, even the drug stores have them. It's a good idea to keep a shot of something in the closet for medicinal purposes.
