Default Teens at Spanish Springs

I have lived here in The Villages for about 2 years but have not gone to Spanish Springs "late" (after 9:30 pm) at night before. Truthfully, most of my time is spent at Lake Sumter Landing for after dark activities. I went there tonight to pick my wife up after a movie.

I have read about the "roving gangs of teenagers" at The Church On The Square but never have seen it before. I saw around 35 or so teens (ages 13 -17, maybe) around the Church just hanging around, talking, some making out and I actually laughed. I did see a couple of definitely weird looking teens including one with triangles tattooed under his eyes. "Why are these kids here in a senior retirement community" I asked myself? Chances are that most are NOT grandkids of residents but probably residents of Lady Lake and the surrounding area. They are not drinking in public, I did not see any intimidation of anyone, there was no smell of marijuana in the air. These kids were hanging around in a safe atmosphere.

I did see the VCDD Community Watch pickup truck go by a couple of times and stop but no one got out to ask questions. There were no questions to actually ask. The Lake County Police car went by one time. Obviously, no problem was happening.

If these teens from the surrounding communities want to hang out around Spanish Springs town square and The Church On The Square, what problems do any Villagers have with that situation? It is actually doing the community a service, if you ask me.

As long as they're not causing any problems....

Let sleeping dogs lie.

Seriously, if you were a teen in that area, where else could you hang out with your friends?? As ilovetv said, as long as they aren't causing problems it's nice to see that they are safe. It's so easy to see a "gang" of kids and forget that they are somebodys kids and we were the same age at one time. (ok...a long long long long..............time ago )

Being out here in the left side we are 3 hrs earlier than TV. Many nights I will look at the Spanish Springs and LSL webcams. Spanish Springs usually has all kinds of action whenever I look in at 10 PM or 11 PM West Coast time (1 AM and 2 AM in the right side). I just looked and there was a police car flashing blue lights, couples walking into and out of the square, golf carts driving around, cars parked in front of the Church on the Square, cars driving around - all this at 1:30 AM. Many times I have seen a white stretched limo parked at the top of Main St at the Square at 2 AM.

The LSL Webcam is aimed at the clock and normally there isn't any action.

Wonder why so much activity in Spanish Springs so late every night with everything closed??? Just looked again: Fire Dept Pickup followed by ambulance heading around square with what looked like two uniformed men standing at the top of Main St? Two uniformed guys talking with a guy in white tee shirt and jeans.
