I wonder why they can't have an area in the parking lots of the rec centers where residents can take their yard waste, until things get back to normal.

The people picking up the Irma debris, could then just go to the large piles and use an end loader or something and put it into dump trucks and not have to drive around the neighborhoods and make thousands of stops. Of course some people wouldn't be able to do this, but if enough people would, it sure seems a lot more cost effective.

Someone reported in a different thread that there was a large truck with a grabber arm collecting debris along Morse south of 466.

Default Trash pickup

I don't ever complain about trash pick-up in TV. I came from a town that had a town dump and you had to take your own trash and waste to the dump, then separate it all the time fighting off flies and wild cats and trying not to inhale the acrid burning smell from the incinerator .... you get the picture! It's part of living gracefully in the country!

I love our trash pickup.

It would be nice to hear a first hand account of someone seeing one of the "marked trucks" somewhere around here. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but I have not yet seen the evidence of debris removal.

The contractor obviously does not have many trucks or crews.
And their contract must be by the day.

Very unlike TV to allow trash piles to sit around for weeks at a time.

Maybe the younger management members (not family) do not share the same sense of urgency as we have become expectant of based on past performances.

It isn't yet two weeks until Monday. It is a very unusual and wide spread event.

As the District continues to assess damages caused by Hurricane Irma, we are happy to announce that almost all facilities are now open.* As the safety of residents of The Villages community and District staff remain our top priority, please understand that storm recovery and clean-up will remain an ongoing process.*
•*Irrigation will continue to run along common areas and roadways to lower the water levels in water retention areas.* You may also see water being emptied through fire hydrants as we attempt to lower water levels.*
•*Please continue to avoid all unnecessary potable water use in your home as it must be treated at the sewer treatment plants.* This includes flushing toilets, running washing machines, etc.* This effluent waste water must be treated at the sewer plants and it is important that we reserve capacity and energy to provide a faster recovery.* This conservation also assists us with the storage limitation issue now associated with this treated reclaimed water.*

Recreation Information
•*The following recreation centers are still closed:* Moyer and Hilltop.
•*All swimming pools have re-opened.
•*The following areas will remain closed until further notice:

Community Watch & Gate Information
•*Community Watch placed the gate arms back on the staffed gates on Wednesday, September 13th.* Due to the amount of large trucks and equipment traveling the community to remove debris, gate arms will NOT be added back to un-staffed gates.* If you approach a gate where the gate arm has been removed, please use extreme caution and make sure to stop before proceeding.

Golf Information
•*All golf courses will remain closed until further notice.* The courses will be evaluated daily and we will provide additional information as it is available.*
•*For your safety, please do not walk on any of the golf courses as there is still a lot of debris and dangerous areas.* Your safety comes first!
•*Men’s & Ladies Days are cancelled for Tuesday, September 19th and Wednesday, September 20th.

Tunnel Information – the following tunnels are still closed.* For your safety, please do NOT attempt to enter these tunnels and adhere to all directional signage.

•*Tunnel B23 – located under Buena Vista Boulevard just north of Evans Prairie Country Club
•*Bridge located across US Hwy 441 – the bridge located over US Hwy 441 from Spanish Springs to Orange Blossom Gardens and Silver Lake
We will continue to post updates and information as they become available.* Facilities will only be re-opened after it has been determined that the area and facilities are safe to do so.* We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience.* Please continue to check Village Community Development Districts for additional updates and information.*
Information Provided by Lady Lake Police Department
Post storm, temporary, escorted golf cart access to cross 27/441 at Boone Gate was provided to residents whose only mode of transportation was a golf cart.* The sole purpose was to safely, and legally, enable those residents to obtain essential supplies as an emergency relief when no other option was available.** The temporary escorted access is no longer being provided.* Florida State Statutes prohibit golf carts from crossing 27/441.* Crossing a highway is illegal and unsafe.** Please remember that if an emergency exists you can call 911 for assistance.*
Debris Removal
As the District continues to assess the community for storm related damages, debris removal is scheduled to begin throughout The Villages along both the roadways and from residential property.*
All storm related yard debris should be placed curbside on residential property, but not in roadways.* Please do NOT place debris in plastic bags.* It may be un-bagged or in paper biodegradable bags.*
To allow residents adequate time to assess needs and prepare debris on their personal property, debris removal is scheduled to begin on Friday, September 15, 2017.* The debris hauler, CrowderGulf, will pick up debris in marked vehicles beginning at 7:00 a.m. and will work until approximately 7:30 p.m. When stacking debris, please use caution to avoid any electrical boxes or water meters.*
In a community the size of The Villages, please understand that this process will take time.* Once CrowderGulf has serviced your area, you will resume yard waste collection on your normally scheduled day.* Normal yard waste collection service will not resume in your area until it has been serviced by the debris hauler, CrowderGulf.**
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the District Customer Service Center at (352) 753-4508.

The contractor is working for FEMA, not The Villages.

Around 1:30 this afternoon a very large dump truck followed by a huge claw front loader came into Bridgeport at Lake Miona and did a u turn in front of the mail station and then left.

No pick up here yet. Tomorrow is our regularly scheduled yard waste pick up. May not have any effect on the contracted work.
We shall see.

I can confirm this. I saw a large truck with a grabber arm picking up debris on Morse. That was in the area between Caroline and Mallory. I drove past the area today and the large pile of debris is gone but the area that was under the pile still looks trashed with smaller debris. This company is not doing the "fine" clean up. I guess that will be up to the regular landscape companies to bring The Villages back to its pre-storm pristine condition.

There is a lot of smaller debris (mostly small leaves) that litter the gutters along the main roadways. I'm assuming it will be up to the home owner's lawn companies to blow those leaves and do clean up. Is that a reasonable assumption?

Default Debris Removal

It's good that somebody is starting to remove all the branches. I saw the paper said the contractor was starting up in Marion county first
They have a lot of work ahead of them.

Fema appears to work much slower than our wonderful CDD government. I do so like the way things work in The Villages and I am such a fan of the Morse family.

I don't have a lot of patience with those who don't have a lot of patience. This too will pass and ...

Not one villager was harmed. Thank God.

Another post that blames the Developer....getting old. We had a hurricane go through and the Developer and the District are working through FEMA to make sure we, as residents, don't get the bill. FEMA makes those rules. Of course you could have given is more details on what the Developer or District did the last time a storm of Irma's magnitude went through The Villages, that might have have helped us understand what your expectations are. Oh yeah, never had a storm this widespread go through.
