Wind chimes, fountains or flags blowing in the wind ... Music for some, annoying for others. Isn't it great that we're all so different. It would be boring if everyone liked vanilla icecream.

Some people complain that frogs (not the people kind) in the ponds make too much noise at night. They can get adventuresome, probably courting. I love to go to sleep with the window open listening to their musical rivets.

I lived on the East River in Manhattan years ago. And then there were the fog horns from the tug boats. There isn't anything louder than a fog horn over water! But after a while, you get used to it and truthfully, after a while you don't really hear it.

So I am questioning the sounds everyone is talking about in this thread. It's as though too many have too much time on their hands and has to sound off about something.

Wind chimes? A fountain? A flag? Seriously???

I really like the sounds of soft wind chimes, water fountains, flags, etc. But I also love the sound of silence sometimes. Neighbors shouldn't assume everyone likes their particular sounds. Thoughtfulness is the key. Probably we all agree that barking dogs and f*rting are universally irritating!

I love the sound of chimes either from a clock or a lanai, the flow of water, the creaking of a floor, a bird's love song, etc and especially the sound of a train because it signals to me that all his well and for that I thank my Creator

I think some people (not all) are less bothered by certain sounds because their hearing isn't that good. That doesn't mean we should question or demean those who are bothered by televisions, chimes, train whistles or whatever. Hopefully most people will exercise common courtesy when it comes to their neighbors.

If the chimes bothered my neighbors I would do away with them. Being considerate is much more important!!

I agree with you. But I wonder if my neighbors might be too polite to tell me if my sounds, whatever they might be, do irritate them. I probably wouldn't tell my own neighbors unless the sounds were VERY distracting. How many of us assume that because we like something, then everyone else must like it too?

I guess we'll opt for inside sounds only, and keep the "Silence is Golden" idea for outside.

I think it would make a difference on whether you live in a patio villa or a courtyard villa....they are very close to each other. Also, if you put one outin your yard and you have a very close neighbor behind you, the "tinkling" can become annoying.

I do have a set of chimes. We have it hanging very close to our backdoor under the eaves of the screened in lanai....and we have no neighbors behind us......I haven't heard any complaining from the pigeons yet.

I love wind chimes. My previous wife couldn't stand them so we never had them. One of the first things I bought when I moved down here was wind chimes to hang on the front of the house. I certainly hope that they don't disturb my neighbors, and if they did, I would take them down.

But I love sitting here in my living room and hearing them.
