I think when you live so close to your neighbor you should ask them before you install them, instead of putting them up and than asking.

I'm not a fan of chimes. I think it's a great idea to ask before installing them. There are probably many neighbors who tolerate things they don't especially like. I would never, ever complain to a neighbor about anything, unless I thought there was a murder in process. I'm not saying that complaining is wrong, it's just not for me.

Boy, people can find any little thing about their neighbors to annoy them. With the problems in the World, typhoons in the Philippines, gold miners trapped in a mine in South Africa, etc. what difference does a wind chime make.

We should all be grown ups and we own our houses and if we want a wind chime, fountain, flags, bird bath, what difference does it make to anyone else?

I will now find a way to hang my wife's wind chimes in our birdcage.

Being considerate of others was something my parents tried to teach us when we were young. I, personally, like the fact that Villagers are overall a considerate group of people. I try to be considerate of my neighbors. I often gauge how my actions might impact my neighbors by imagining what it would be like if everyone did whet I was thinking of doing. If the result would not be good I don't do it. I like to listen to opera real loud. Knowing that opera is not many people's favorite music, I play it with my doors and windows closed. If I were to crank up the record player on the lanai then I would be inconsiderate of my neighbors. Putting out noisy wind chimes close to your neighbor's lanai is not being considerate. Let's face it, we Villagers live close to one another now. No more big colonials on two acres like I had back in New Hampshire. I like the fact that the Villages has rules on what is allowed. At least there are some backups in place in case my neighbor's behavior gets out of hand or doesn't respond to polite requests to make some changes.

You might want to go outside one time when you have the opera blasting in your house. I was quite surprised one night when I took the dogs out that I could hear my husband snoring inside the house. Yeah, I know, I don't know how I get any sleep either!

We all live very close together here. My dog poops and you hate it. Your wind chimes keep me awake at night. My waterfall annoys you. Your lanai TV annoys me. So on and so on. By the way, you don't know how to drive the round abouts and I don't use my turn signals. Maybe we need a little communication, tolerance and common sense. Don't worry, be happy!
