I wish you all well and pray there is no storm or hurricane. The Villages is a beautiful place to live!

Don't forget to fill a bathtub full of water. If you lose water pressure, a bucket full will flush a toilet.

If Dorian keeps on the predicted track and Central Florida will get a direct hit of a Cat3 hurricane I'm gonna stay home and hunker down. But if by chance it moves up to a Cat4, I'm thinking leaving will be better. I owned in TV when Irma hit but I was up north selling my townhouse so I've never experienced going through this. I've sure been through many Massachusetts Blizzards though.

Update---> I thought I was posting this in the Dorian Thread but I put it here by mistake. I tried to delete it but it wouldn't delete. My bad.

I keep reading about that but anyone know when or where that has actually happened in a "modern" infrastructure area?

My father's area took a pretty direct hit in Ft Lauderdale during IRMA and had no water (drinking or flushing) problems but there was lots of other damage.
I always hear of loss of electricity but never loss of water pressure despite all the "fill the tub" warnings. Rural areas maybe? Yes, we did fill our tub for Ms. IRMA because everyone said we should. Maybe it's like you need a supply of bread and milk (and tuna fish??) even if you never eat bread and milk because "they say you should.

Heaven forbid if we can't flush!

IF the storm were to stay in the path that is currently forecast, then the center would pass to the south of Orlando. IF that holds true, I would expect some wind and a lot of rain here. Then again, this will be my first hurricane, and I may very well not know what I am talking about. I have been a hurricane watcher for many years, and the one thing I do know is that it is way too early to be sure of where this thing will hit, and what areas it will affect.

I think my post was not helpful so I removed it. Everyone knows how to prepare.

My family spent many summers at Ocracoke NC (the pirate Black Beard’s refuge). Every late summer hurricanes hit and the first few times my family evacuated 100 miles away; 2 young children, 2 dogs, 1 cat. Then we noticed that the same buildings seem always to be ok year after year. When tourist left the news people took their place, one person took our room and parking place. After that my husband said we are not leaving in the future anymore. We never ended up facing a severe hurricane though. Some people who lived directly on the coast never left for any hurricane. They stayed out of the water, boarded up their windows and doors and seemed to do alright.

My uncle lived as a frog in TV since 1992 just south of Spanish Springs and also never left TV for hurricanes till he passed away 5 years ago.

We lived in New Bern ,NC--Fairfield Harbour--the community really got whacked two years ago by hurricane Florence, which had an 11 ft. prolonged storm surge.

Can't imagine living for more than 24 hrs without a/c here--we may have to live in one of our cars if power goes out--sleeping wise

We need to see if we can get into our attics, and have something to corral our pets and get out our life jackets too. I wonder if Life jackets are sold out.
Please let me know if I should bring the kayak?
