The turnpike noise can be an issue - it depends on 1) you 2) closeness to t pike 3) which way your house/lanai are oriented 4) wind 5) temperature and 6) anything else. After lifestyle visit #2 we bought a lot in DeSoto with lanai facing 501. On lifestyle visit #3 in Dec 2018, were supposed to visit the Street of Dream & pick out cabinets, flooring, etc. But the night before the appointment we went to our lot at 8 pm to test the noise level. Unacceptable to me! Others, however might have thought nothing of it. We went to plan B & chose a spec house in DeSoto, easily transferred the deposit and bought the spec house. We still hear t pike noise, especially loud in the early morn ( 6 am) & Mondays and on cold days and now we also hear trucks on Warm Springs. If I had to do it all over, I’d rent for 3-6 months before buying. Full disclosure – the noise doesn’t bother hubby a bit!!

It is loud in places.
But there are plenty of buying options out of earshot.
Many people buy the houses within the noisy area, so it must be bearable/ignorable to those people.
They buy there cause the houses are cheaper for that reason.

We live in Monarch Grove, which is near the turnpike and coming from a very quiet neighborhood in the suburbs I was a little worried...but honestly it doesn’t seem to really matter, it’s a light white noise in the background on certain days...I only hear when outside, mainly mornings. It’s not bothering us at all...I’m sure it’s way less annoying than listening to pickle ball courts or sports areas in the background...

Yes it is.

I am in Linden near the Highway I rarely notice the traffic noise. I find the constant lawn mower noise from all the different landscape companies and the Villages maintenance crews to be more prevalent than the highway.

I had a condo on the ocean in Stuart years ago. The sound of the Atlantic was there 24/7. I did not mind it, and many people feel it to be very relaxing. Now, if you could convince yourself that this traffic noise is similar to ocean waves (minus the car horns), you may be able to "enjoy" it. But it is certainly not for me.

I would rather have steady highway noise , then some dog yipping off and on while out on lanai, or the morons that think everyone wants to hear there TV show that they leave on out on lanai all day . I’ve been lucky in 5 homes here not to have the problem but lots of people do and I hear those TV’S when I’m walking sometimes 4 or 5 homes before I pass there home

Default Much like the train issue ...

I've heard this before regarding the noise 0f some 30 or so freight trains passing nearby daily/nightly. Some folks couldn't stand it and had to move. I can hear it from quite a distance, and I like the sound, as it's a reminiscence from my childhood. I'm not sure I'd like it if I were in close proximity to it. It's a very individual thing. Visit the area at several different times of the day and night and see what your comfort level is; don't listen to anyone posting on your thread. This has to be YOUR experience!

I would also consider if being in a noisy area would make it harder to sell your house down the road.

The landscape companies don't work after dark. It is so lovely to sit on our lanai, after dark in the peace and quiet. That traffic din is constant if you are close enough to the turnpike to hear it.

You can always have a "talk" with the offender of a loud TV or loud music. You can not have a "talk" with the traffic on the turnpike.

I agree!

There are some here who would buy shoes too small because they’re cheap, then claim their feet don’t hurt.
