Default Tv daily sun rated one of the worst by mondo times

Hubby found this website while searching for his hometown newspaper in NJ. Happened to come across a very negative article about TV Daily Sun.

"Villages Daily Sun is a daily newspaper in The Villages, Florida, USA covering general news.

It is one of the worst American media outlets, according to Mondo Times members.

This newspaper is owned by Morse Operating Co."

Did a search for our local newspaper in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York State and not thrilled with the results either:

The Villages Daily Sun:
Content: Poor
Credibility: Low
(based on a total of 6 votes)

Middletown Times Herald Record:
Content: Poor
Credibility: Very Low
(based on a total of 2 votes)

Oh my! So much for the media; of course, more votes might help result in a bigger picture....

Default oh well

I guess you'd have to live in The Bubble to appreciate it! I look forward to reading The Daily Sun when we are there.

I like the Sun well enough,
It's not Pulitzer Prize in-depth international events, but I get enough of that elsewhere. To each his/her own,

We all know that the Daily Sun is a feel good newspaper owned by "the-family". It serves the intended purpose. Do not confuse this daily newspaper with such publications as the Boston Globe, NY Times, etc.

What the Daily Sun does well is inform us of activities in TV and surrounding area. Lots of ads for stores and tradespeople and only Good News. If you want real news subscribe to a real newspaper.

Regardless of wether or not those six people who rated the Daily Sun like it or not, it is one of the fastest growing newspapers in the country. That is not rumor or opinion, it is fact.

The daily Sun reminds me of the daily newsletter that would be published at scout camp. It's simple and positive. It has a mission (sell homes). At the rate people move here I'm not surprised by the rate of growth. It's fun to read but I don't expect in-depth commentary. Nobody put a gun to my head to subscribe to it.

In my opinion, The Villages Daily Sun is an informative and engaging newspaper. Of the dozens of newspapers my wife and I have subscribed to over the years, we look forward to reading this one the most. It is not the New York Times, thank diety.

There are several reasons why a site like Mondo Times would have negative views about this paper:

1. Newspapers have, over the past couple of decades, taken on a more liberal bias. The Daily Sun is a "contrarian" newspaper in this regard. Most often, except in very local markets, contrarians are not that popular.

2. Folks in the main stream print media business, which is dominated by liberals, are the ones who are most likely to provide opinions about other newspapers.

3. Younger people (20's and 30's) tend to be more liberal and dislike conservative publications, especially if seen as being controlled by a business and not by other liberals. They are more likely to be on the computer rating newpapers.

4. There is a growing bias (jealousy?) against success and big business. Put the two together along with control of media outlets, and folks get a bit hostile in their views.

Default The Villages Daily Sun was the only media that...

printed a story about my fight to get local libraries linked to the FL Victim Services Directory. Gary Corsair wrote an article about my efforts in a May 2007 article. This covered the success I had with getting a link to this Directory at the Lake County Library System. http://www.lakeline.lib.fl.us/intern...oryCategory=24

It also covered my efforts to get a link at Marion and Sumter County Library systems for this Directory which unfortunately I still have not been able to do. Be one year about from Memorial Day (07) to Memorial Day (08)

Have got links to different states versions of a Victim Assistance Directory at many libraries around the US but often have the least success in my own backyard.

I had written thousands of e-mails (1999+) and snail mails (1992+) to media around the US as well as to foreign media about hepling survivors of crimes get practical materials through libraries but Gary Corsair's May 2007 article was the very first that I know of that actually covered this subject of a link at libraries to victim assistance directories.

I am sure that the people who sell The Daily Sun are very happy that so many people have paid for their paper. I like and subscribe to their paper and have for several years. It cost less than a dollar a week. Where else can I get something delivered to my drive way.

There are several papers available at the corner of almost every corner in The Villages and most of the times there are still some of them left when The Daily Sun's are sold out.

I would rather read about what I can do today and tomarrow rather than what happened that was negative in the area. Just purchase the negative papers if that is what makes you happy!

Why is that not a surprise that an outfit like "Mondo" would be down on the Daily Sun. Probably one of the reasons is that the Daily Sun dares to print something you can't find in the Washington Post, NY Times, Orlando Sentinel or the Boston Globe - Good News!

Yes, our daily fishwrap dares the established print media by publishing a paper which actually has articles in it that make you smile, tell of good things happening in the community, and make the day less dismal. The other "sophisticated" publications center on all the bad news imaginable - crime, corruption, fear, brutality and generally all the things that make Prozac a big seller.

Wherever the Daily Sun is sold - even in the Village kiosks - there's always at least another publication (such as USA Today, as a minimum) where one can get their daily fix of despair.

Thanks, Daily Sun! You may not be the national grab for quotes and reference, but you make my day a little brighter....
