For those who don't get the paper or have not read it yet, the latest results from the UFHealth symptomatic and asymptomatic testing at the Polo grounds were published this morning.
There have been 1580 symptomatic tests and the positive rate was 2.7% There have been 2100 asymptomatic research tests and the positive rate was 0.1% While I do not know the false positive and false negative rates for the two different tests and I also suspect that the asymptomatic research testing does not necessarily represent a random sample of The Villages, these low rates suggest that The Villages has been doing a good job at following the Government guidelines. |

Thanks for posting this. Another part of the article eased my mind because I was concerned about how full the hospital is.
Hospitals Ready, But No Demand Yet As a system, UF Health has significant bed and ventilator capacity, said Dr. David Berg, chief operating officer and interim chief medical officer for UF Health Central Florida, which operates UF Health The Villages Hospital and UF Health Leesburg Hospital. “In addition, we have the ability to flex up or down to meet the needs of our patients, making adjustments to staffing levels and other resources required to care for additional critically ill patients,” he said. If for some reason, UF Health hospitals in The Villages or Leesburg were to reach capacity, “we also have the ability ‘to transfer patients to our Gainesville or Jacksonville facilities,” added Don Henderson, CEO of UF Health Central Florida. “We re-evaluate anticipated needs on a daily basis and plan accordingly.” Locally, UF Health The Villages Hospital is licensed for 32 intensive care unit beds and maintains sufficient capacity to provide the level of care COVID-19 patients require. “You should take comfort in the fact that UF Health took over your hospitals,” (Dr. Larry Howard, a New York City-based physician who was involved in establishing the primary care network here) said of last year’s acquisition by the university health care system. “Now, you have an academic medical center with a virtual ICU, that is such a critically important issue. With UF Health there, if you do have an outbreak, it’s not going to overwhelm the hospital because you have a true academic partner.” |

My wife and I were both tested at the Polo Grounds and were very impressed how quickly and politely it all went. Only problem is that while my wife got her (negative) results via email in just three days, it has now been 13 days for mine. Obviously, there was a "glitch" in the reporting system, and that's understandable, but I have been unable to contact anyone to request my results. Have tried the email address that originated our appointment, calling UF Health, and my doctor's office. No luck with any of them. Does anyone have contact information that I can try? Thanks much.

You can get cases in The Villages by going to Home | Florida Department of Health COVID-19 Outbreak. At the bottom of the page it has a button for report. A few pages down in the report it lists cases by city.
As of today there are 62 cases in the Sumter part of The Villages. Another 6 in the Lake County part of the Villages. I’m not sure if the newer part of the Villages below 44 is considered the Villages or Wildwood, but there are 5 cases in Wildwood. No where in the report does it mention those that have recovered. I found that stat (66 recovered) to be the best news in the story. |

In its most complete analysis of the outbreak yet published, the national health institute (ISS) said the average age of those who died was 78.5 years, with the youngest victim aged 31 and the oldest 103. The median age was 80.
Some 41% of all those who died were aged between 80-89, with the 70-79 age group accounting for a further 35%. Thin the herd Allowing natural selection to work its course, thus thinning out the population of those that can not survive on their own. |
