A little trivia about a famous bear hunter-- Davy Crockett.

I think you would need something as powerful as an elephant gun to take down a bear though.
A guy I know took one down at very close range with a .357 Magnum handgun. Very scary as it did not stop the bear for some time although one shot had hit the bear in the heart. The guy was camping in a tent and had not properly stashed his food away from the tent. The bear awakened the guy when he stuck his nose under the tent and sniffed. Fortunately the guy had a loaded revolver right there with him. This happened in the mountains in NM.

A friend took a picture of a bear walking down Rt 466 east of Rolling Acres. Remember they were here before we were.

Wow, you must be an avid outdoorsman. I lived in Maine for 20 years and i would not know a bear **** from a moose ****. As far as the gun goes, were you a police officer? I was a combat soldier and am very familiar with firearms yet i would NOT bring a firearm with the intent of killing a bear..not a happy ending. As soon as you pull the trigger the police will be there. Probably confiscate your firearm, put the cuffs on you and bring you to jail. Be hyper vigilant.

I would know bear poop. I was dragged through some shortly after this picture was taken. That is not as embarrassing as the Daisy Dukes.

Maybe we could allocate some of the new apartments as bear habitats.

Also - if it's a Florida Black Bear, reconsider walking your dog armed to protect against it. First of all - it lives on an 80% vegetarian diet. It's not all that interested in meat. Second, and more importantly, it is protected by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. It is illegal to kill them.

If you come across a bear, either be completely still, or make a LOT of loud clanging obnoxious noise to scare it away. Take that big AR-15 of yours and bang it against the sidewalk, instead of shooting it. It'll get the bear to leave you alone, and it'll keep you out of jail.

In June, I hit a wild pig crossing 75/florida turnpike at about 1AM - they are still here. Having grown up in a rural area i don't mind the wild animals living among us. . . though reptiles brain are so small that they are hard to relate to.

Well, excuse me for not being from your part of the country. Everyone I’ve ever been around in the south normally would call it bear s#%t but I tried to tone it down by calling it poop.

I'm sorry folks are giving you a hard time about this. A few years ago, there was a mama bear and her cub in the downtown area of Lady Lake. She ended up on CR 466 going west near the Village of La Zamora towards Cherry Lake Road.
