I worked 26 years with the public up here in NY and dealt frequently with people that were angry, and even a few that threatened me. Not at a level that peace officers or military experience, but still quite aggressive. It was enough that some of our customers would tell me that they wouldn't want my job for anything! The experience has taught me tact and patience, but there were rare occasions where I lost it with some and let the political correctness take a back stage. It's hard not to do when they're yelling at you AND sticking and jabbing their finger right in your face over things that were not of your doing or your fault. Probably the scariest moment was when I was told by a co-worker that a customer she knew, and that I took care of a few days prior, was going to come after me for failing to tell him something that he thought I should have. She claimed she knew him, intervened for me and talked him out of it. Thank goodness... either way! Anyway, that person was a former leader of a local chapter of the Hells Angels that was charged with murder a number of years before. ![]() Anyway, good luck on your upcoming move and the preparation for it. We too have started that process for our upcoming move in October and can relate to what you're going through. ![]()

I'm also a bit confused by the Title of the post, but I think I understand the some of the frustration.
I have been frustrated that a few of my posts were deleted several months ago and done so without the courtesy of informing me what it was that I did to violate the rules of the forum. Thinking I was doing something wrong, I simply re-posted several times only to find the post mysteriously disappeared. I contacted the administrator about my posts being deleted and I was informed it wasn't because I violated any rule, but the person I referenced in my post had been banned. Had the administrator taken the time to contact me after my first post was deleted, I would have understood why - whether I agreed or disagreed with his decision. Doing so could have been a great lesson learned, not only for me, but other members as well. Yes, this is a informative forum that provides a great deal of entertainment and information. However, even with 18,000 members, I hope the new administrator(s) do a more effective job communicating to its members when they believe an infraction has occurred. There is always room for improvement and this applies to both our TOTV members and its owners.

I visit here on a regular basis. I like TOTV.
There seem to be two groups of folks here.....People who live or own in The Villages, and folks thinking about it. I am a oddity here....I'm currently living in my NY home that is for sale and I own in a smaller community just south of you good people. TOTV is one way I get my "Florida fix". That being said, I have most always been welcome here and I have tried to post helpful info and be respectful. I appreciate you all allowing an "outsider" like me to post. The current new "Admins" will do fine. Respect is the word here. It seems that some of the frustration stems with how threads are managed. I am a forum Moderator on one of the biggest, most active forums in the country. There we use the same v-bulletin software, etc. Perhaps if I may share some suggestions that we do on that forum, it may help. We have a Terms of Service that folks agree to when joining. We have that posted as a sticky so that folks can read it more then just the first time when they join. Many folks do not even read the rules when joining, but they should. As a Moderator there, I have the power to edit a post, (I do a "Mod Cut") if a small part of a post is bad.... If a post is off topic, a rant, disrespectful, etc, I will just delete the post and put a reason why. If I get to it too late and someone has posted a reply to that now deleted post, their post also gets deleted as an "orphaned post". This makes the thread then less confusing. Since Moderators do have a life, and cannot watch things 24/7....there is a report feature where if someone posts something offensive, etc, anyone can click the report button and it goes right to a Moderator so they can deal with it, etc. Folks, trust me....the "problems" here are nothing. This is a very smooth, quiet, well run forum with hardly any problems. You have no trolls, attackers, etc. You do not have to contend with Rep points, Infractions, Banning problem posters, fake IP addresses, etc. Moderating is more of an Art then a Science. I do not always get it right on the forum I Mod. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater, as this forum in my opinion is wonderful. Respectfully, Frank

I agree and regarding comments about long threads, the one in question here was on for 10 hrs and 6 minutes.

yeah. I think a lot more people wanted to say thanks to Russ. I don't post much, never met him, but he is a smart guy. I think some other people should have left, not him.

First, I totally agree with Frank.
Second, Russ signed on yesterday as his name popped up at the bottom. Just go visit his statistics. So I am sure he will keep taking private messages and I'm also sure many of his friends here are also on his facebook page. I also wish him well. Third, many many posters have decided to stop posting like Russ. All I have seen have just left with no public thread posting of their decision to stop posting. I miss some of them. But the section is for The Villages, General Discussion. I am so glad every poster does not start a thread when they decide to stop posting. Fourth, I also do not believe in the title of this thread. I am very impressed with the new Admin. I see a nice wide variety of people posting. As Frank and others have said, its a hard job to be an Admin of a forum. |

When I saw that the thread "Back to school" was closed as well as Russ's
Thread I expressed my concern. Personally I enjoy the give and take of the discussions and became alarmed when "back to school" was closed since it Appeared to be informative and I wanted to know more about the subject. I think that closing that Both threads was premature. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. ![]() (blame the learning curve on my iPad for errors) |
