Default A Very Smart Homeowner

I just encountered a very savvy homeowner here in The Villages.

Yesterday, I picked up our mail and when I got home, I found a Readers Digest that was put in my box by accident. The address numbers were right but the wrong street. I decided to take it to the owner today.

It was only a few minutes by golf cart to their house from mine. The name on the lamp post was the same as on the magazine. I rang the doorbell and a lady comes to the window insert by the front door and calls out, " Who are you and what do you want?" I held up the magazine, told her who I was and that I was bringing their misplaced magazine.

She tentatively opened the door partway, took the magazine, looked at the address and opened the door, smiled and said, " Sorry, but we just have to be careful."

I agreed as she thanked me for bringing the magazine.

Precautions are not hard to take, she did the right thing and is a shining example of what other ladies should do.

I think you look suspicious, Buggy.

Gracie, buggy and Kitty. Three of the nicest people in the villages all in a row. I have had anice day and this thread verifies I am in for a good night.

Crazy as this post sounds, I am serious. Anyone that has not met these three, should take the time to do so.

Good for you to take the mail to the recipient. I did that a couple of times and got a grump and no thank you from them. Now I just take the mail back the next day and dump it through my slot onto the floor at the mail station and the mail person puts it in the correct slot the next day.

If I notice the wrong address when I pick up my mail I dump it through the slot immediately. If the mail person is still there they probably put it in the correct slot at that time.

I am not being unfriendly but I think that it is the mail person's job to get it right.

There IS a slot above the outgoing mailbox for misdirected mail.

What I meant by what I said above is that it struck me funny. Here goes a good Samaritan delivering a magazine...and the lady flipping out. I meant to say you know who you are but you can be misunderstood...Grace said it better.

It was very nice of you to personally deliver this mishandled mail.

This woman is savvy, to people, who are not expected to visit. With all of the recent breakins, she was being cautious of opening her door.
Although I have a window to see out of for visiters, I have decided to install a peep hole, to peer out, at whoever wants to visit. I think it is more convenient, and to be more careful of who's knocking at your door. Maybe, it's a NY, type of thing.

Thanks for posting this info. It's a good reminder, for all of us, to be careful.

That is exactly what I meant in atarting this post. No, the lady did not flip out at all. She was careful and I think think that is SMART.
