Default The Village of Sanibel

Noticed today's Construction Update in The Daily Sun included information about areas south of 466A. Maybe it's been published previously but I just saw it today.

They're working on the guardhouse and entry area for the Village of Sanibel off Morse Blvd. Also getting ready to start that village's postal station and pool with a tentative June completion.

The new fire station on Morse is scheduled for a fall completion.

Sounds like they're gearing up to jump the road and start building homes on the other side. Would not surprise me at all if people aren't living there by the end of the year.

Looking at the roads for this village on the Sumter County GIS map, it's very close to the landfill across from Colony Plaza. For as bad as it smells sometimes over by Colony, I would think those homes could be impacted.

The paper also mentioned construction has started on Sterling Heights Rec Center over by Tamarind Grove and St. James Villages. Again, a midsummer completion.

It will be interesting to see the last phases of The Villages take shape.

Caly and I were down there last night. The tee box where the Sarasota range will end up is leveled, the first round-about tarred and some Villa walls are up.... seems like a minute ago there was a tunnel sitting above the earth

Yes, it does. I'm amazed at how fast things get built in TV.

Yes, that's my understanding as well. However, I think they do some burning of what's brought in and maybe some of that stuff smells when it burns.

Maybe it has nothing to do with the landfill/dump, all I know is there are times when it literally stinks to high heaven around the Colony area. For example we went to Publix Monday night about 8 and you could smell it in the car with the windows up.

If anyone knows what the cause of the "aroma" around Colony Plaza is from I'd be interested in hearing.

This was in today's Recreation News. The fire station south of 466A will open in August.

"Stations within The Villages are placed within a 2.5-mile radius of each other with overlapping boundaries to insure proper coverage is maintained.

The department also hires three paramedic / firefighters for every 2,250 homes sold in the community.

The District Public Safety Department currently serves the community with five fire stations. However, for those driving along County Road 466A, a new phase of growth is obvious.

As I write this article, a sixth station is under construction to serve this growing portion of the community and station seven is being planned.

Additionally, the department is in the process of hiring 12 paramedic / firefighters to staff station six, which is slated to go online in August."
