Do you think all persons who attempt murder are mentally ill? Not by a long shot.....

a mental or bodily condition marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, and emotions to seriously impair the normal psychological functioning of the individual—called also mental illness

I think the question is not "are all people who attempt murder mentally ill?" Of course they are..at least according to this definition of mental illness..This does not mean that they are not responsible or accountable for their actions...but a mind that is functioning correctly would not act upon this impulse. (at least, that's my opinion, for what it's worth )

Not guilty because of insanity has been discredited by courts for many years and rightfully so. It doen't matter how drunk or angry one is, there is this control thing that everybody has, except maybe a child.

I totally agree with you. The insanity plea to allow killers to go free is crazy...anyone that harms another human being should be held accountable....they are guilty, no matter what the reason. I just think that ANYONE that does this has a screw loose somewhere...for whatever reason, bad childhood, genetic disorder, drugs, alcohol, whatever....they should not get a free pass. A mentally stable person (is there such a thing?) would not attempt to murder their spouse and should be put away, even if they are crazy as a loon.
