The Sumter county sheriff just addressed the Straight Shooters club, and said that there is practically no crime in The Villages itself, except for a few home burglaries. TV is 80% of Sumter county. Almost all of the county crime is in the remaining 20%. So you have to question what was counted in the study, probably the whole county.

The Villages is NOT a city. Neither are some of the other places listed, but that's neither here nor there. The fact is they are not retirement communities.

![]() Stress is internal. You take it wherever you go and no matter where you live. I find living in TV to be a very relaxing environment but that's me. ![]()

12,000 years from now archeologists will unearth TV and what they will find is an intricate system of roads, underground utilities, sewers and 60,000 foundation slabs, 35,000 concrete walls, 55 or so communal pools all within a very small land space. They will determine that this was a very busy resort city. Last edited by RickeyD; 06-08-2016 at 01:09 PM. |

So I thought to myself....Self, what would be the least stressful city? The Huffington Post, helpful as ever, provided the answer. That would be Iowa City, IA where:
Average workweek - 33.4 hrs Average commute time - 16.3 min Divorce Rate - 7% Physical Activity Rate - 60% Entertainment Est. per 1000 businesses - 14.27 Average Sleep/Night hrs - 7.08 By every metric The Villages has that beat by a mile. The Least-Stressed Cities in America |

Most of us moved here and took away the ability of those states and localities to keep their hands in our pockets . Seniors are at the most liquid and highest asset point of their lives . The Taxing authorities back where we came from feel that we have individually and collectively " cheated them " ! If they could they would pass laws that would prevent us from moving away from such tax hungry places as say NY State !! |

I find being new her is quite stressful. Though our goal is the opposite of that we have never been into extremely busy lives stress is a killer and greatly alters your health. People here seem very stressed to me aka in a big hurry. They way they drive cards and golf carts. We tried attending a card card and good lord it was like being in the hot seat. They must play for games and you must take your turn quickly. They get angry if your winning they get angry if you make a mistake? I find a lot come here and turn even fun activities into a job or work? We love it here and will love it here much more as we find our own pace and groove but must say most here seem to always be in a hurry? Even when you go to the grocery story they check you out so fast as if it's a contest when there is no one behind you in line. LOL Maybe people have their schedules too full? For us we want to enjoy this amazing place and the last thing we want is to find ways to be cranky and always rushing everywhere. We have met tons of nice people but you can't live anywhere that there is not the "queen bee" mentality clicky feel. It takes awhile to find people of like mind. It cost nothing to be kind! Being rude over a card game or any activity is pretty selfish people have to learn a lot here about so many things.

For many years of my career I had to commute , work and live among them and I vowed that I would avoid them as much as possible in retirement . When I can see their ;license plates which indicate where they are from I give them a very wide berth ! Thanks for having the courage to bring this issue up . I have seen an increase in folks from that part of the world over the five years that I have been here and an increase in pushy rude behavior and the same for driving habits associated with the same folks . |

Seems that most posters disagree with the high level of stress in The Villages. I for one agree with the statistics. Consider all the decisions that we face.
1/ On the 100 yard executive course hole, with 50 yards over water. Do I use a water ball or just go to the ball drop? 2/ When I get to the Country Club Do I order my drink now or wait 15 Minutes until Happy Hour? 3/ When driving and I get to a pedestrian crosswalk Did the pedestrian step out in time or not and should I yield? 4/ When I have a bad restaurant experience Do I dare post it on TOTV without vetting the restaurant manager? 5/ When I go to the Golf Course and find that my trail fees have expired 1 day ago? Will I have to again endure the ecstatic starter gleefully announce that my trail fees are expired & I can now have the privilege of paying $4 . I could go on but it would only drive us one step more toward #1. I |

I am so stressed out. Today I played golf. Did not make par even once, very bad day. Yesterday went bowling. I bowled a 135. Tonight I went to hear music. I didn't like at least 30% of the songs. Had dinner out and had to wait five minutes before I was given a table. I was going to mow the lawn tomorrow but, the lawn service did it for me today. Played pool at a rec. center near me. Wow I am so bad at that. Then played some cards with friends in the evening. More golf then to pool, tomorrow. I will have to rest soon. So you see so much stress. Forced to play so much, I also hate the way people are always saying hello. Don't they understand the pressure I am under. I watched T.V. so many problems all over the world. If I had the time, I might care. Now I don't remember when to go to work anymore. Wait I am retired I don't think I work any more. Poor me living in the villages.
