This is federal land? There was a prison that actually expanded where we used to live. We saw an electric company down in Citrus Grove that expanded on its land and made things unsightly in the area. We noticed it when we were driving in nearby Newell. The bottom line is, if someone else owns the adjacent property, expect the unexpected.

This is #4 and while we say, it’s the last one…until something comes up that’s better.
Wow, four houses in TV! I can appreciate your rationale, but we have approached moving here a bit different. With 27.5 years active duty Army we have packed, moved and unpacked more times than I can remember, and the thought of multiple moves in TV in retirement is not appealing in the least. I'm not saying it won't happen but we have tried to sweat the details to hopefully avoid it. Glad that the adventure for you is going well but my moving adventure meter has been redlined for some time!

We sold our home in the Villages. We are currently renting until we find a good lot to build. If you are in a hurry to start your Villages lifestyle, renting is a good option. You will be able to scout the area before committing to build. Take the warnings the posters have given you, seriously. Moultrie Creek is not the best place to build. Better locations will be available soon.

I am not necessarily concerned about safety, but what should we be concerned about considering the area is adjacent to Coleman?
Supposedly every event at the prison is announced on loudspeakers, following a klaxon-like prelude. So if you are sipping your morning Demi-tasse of expresó on the lanai and you don’t mind the occasional “AH OOO GAGH CELL BLOC B BREAKFAST NOW! announcement, move there and enjoy.

Key word is “Supposedly” unless you are holding a Sheldon sign. Those who live near have actually can give first hand knowledge. So if one is considering moving to area, listen to facts, then scope the area personally

Nonsense, we live near and have never heard a peep.

I've heard that the prison has LOUD horns and other blaring signal devices to signal times for inmates to travel about the compound, lights out, etc. I'm told you'll hear these close to the prison. Do some research. Ask some residents rather that your sales agent.

"I've heard". So you are basing this on a rumor, or have you actually heard the noises you described?

Read post #36, the posted at 1:13pm prior to yours, at 2:01 from an actual resident who lives there. Not what “you heard” probably while in the barber, although I am sure there are juicy tidbits you hear on a regular basis

Translation = Let me pass on a rumor that I heard, not having any actual knowledge.

Look at post #9 for good info. Wellpoint is on the east side of Marsh bend trail just south of Monarch grove. It looks like it will be a good location. You are not next to middleton or the prison. Drive down Marsh bend and you will see. There appears to be a non-village development going in across Marsh Bend on the west side. New homes but not sure of the price point. Doesn't appear to be apartments.

Default Thank you for the responses

I want to thank everyone for their responses. We are planning to move to the Villages by April 1, 2024 whether we find an existing home to buy or have to temporarily rent. Our preference is to build in the northern area around Eastport, thus the question about Coleman, but we are not opposed to an existing home that meets our wants/needs around Marsh Bend/St Johns/Richmond.

Thanks again. I look forward to seeing everyone there in a few months.

You can be 1000 feet from Brownwood square in the evening and barely hear the music. The Coleman prison buildings are much further away from an future homes than 1000 feet.
