As the OP, the only reason I mentioned "being drunk", while carrying a gun is that the squares was mentioned as a place that she and her friends carry. I guess I shouldn't automatically assume drinking and the squares go together.....I realize that not everyone at the squares is drinking.....and I certainly hope that if they have a gun, that they don't drink.

Another reason for my post was that the person who was quoted who carries (and claims most of her friends do), is a hot head. She appears to not have self control. That scares me that folks with hot tempers are carrying. (Hence, why we see road rage where people get killed).

I believe for a lot of people it provides a sense of security. I also feel that for some people if they ended up needing to use it, it would be used against them before they ever had a chance to use it as they intended. Given the age in a retirement community and the decreased reflex time.

People who don't carry or don't even own a gun usually are surprised to find out that many people CC. There are over 300,000,000 guns in this country. I would guess there is probably 5 times as many CCers as there are CWPs.

Unfortunately, I am fully aware of many that carry......just not even one here in TV. That's why the persons comment surprised me...and why I asked.

I knew many that carried up north. Many of very immature people who drank and carried and who sat in bars while carrying.......which again is why her comments concerned me.

However, the good news is that I have never heard of a situation here in TV that involved a gun in a public place.

I believe that the person who posted that she carries and most of her friends carry, is not telling the truth.....judging by the comments here. Hopefully, only mature, intelligent folks CC here in TV.

Gerryann, thanks for starting this thread. I had no idea carrying a gun was so popular in TV.
This thread has been a real eye opener for me.

I do not think this thread provided any substance to conclude that carrying is either popular or not in TV.

For those of us trained and certified and do carry it is as normal and insignificant as carrying a wallet....99% of us would not go around bragging about it. Carrying concealed is like carrying $1000 cash in your pocket.....there just is no need to brag about it.

I believe in Florida and probably most states it is illegal to bring a gun into a bar or any place that serves alcohol

Go to a meeting of The Villages Straight Shooters gun club. You would be surprised at the number of women members. Most have CCW permits.

I'm just concerned about a statement that a person posted and I want to know if any of you believe it to be true. If it is true, it bothers me tremendously. I don't like the idea of drunk ladies "packing" a gun in their purse. I will quote exactly what was posted. By drunk, I am referring to the squares, not the stores. This is the quote:

"Most of the woman I know in TV carry a gun (packing) in their purse in the squares, Walmart, supermarket...drug store...movies...maybe that is why you feel so safe in TV. You have no idea who has a gun and who doesn't. You live in the south. It is for your safety as well as theirs. No one advertises that they are packing, but I assure you if you believe that most Villagers, especially retired military don't have a gun, you are very very naive"

I am only curious if this "lady" is off her rocker or if you believe that there are a lot of females with pistols in their purses? Opinions? ......and Gracie, I don't mean water pistols.
into play???? I'm more concerned with drunken drivers than someone carrying a pistol and being drunk...at least if you're caught with a weapon and are drunk you'll suffer serious consequences...the least of which is you lose your permit to carry...

Stop worrying about those few who carry legally and responsibly and start worrying if the person in the car next to you is about to pass out from alcohol....

Not overly worried about either. Just curious about the comment that this person made saying. " most every woman I know in TV caries a gun"......just an unsettling thought. .....then again, maybe she doesn't know anybody.

I think everyone should carry a gun. Get your permit first though.

I know in Illinois you must go through a comprehensive training program prior to getting a CC permit. I have a firearm permit and use to hunt a bit but never applied for a CC permit. Our son does have one but rarely carries.

Frankly, I don't see the need in TV. I always felt that you shouldn't have a gun unless you know how to use it and are willing to use it. Dad told me that.
