What do you think? Funny or offensive?

This is what it's like to live in The Villages as a young person | Blogs | Orlando Weekly
We will have to watch this kid's career.

I'm pretty sure this young man can read. He seems to be pretty observant. I'm quite certain someone called his attention to this thread by now. Again I ask which part of the video was not true? Is this how we encourage the future generations? Here is a young many with an initiative and a job and some are wanting to kick him out. Perhaps there was some truth in Leisureville.

I would not worry about him. He seems to have quite a lot of fun on Social Media and I doubt if his being fired by the Villages Media Group will hurt him all that much because of the press like Leisureville and a lot of the comments on the Orlando Sentinel blog.

I hope he reads TOTV too but I kind of doubt it. If he does I wish him luck in his career.

We do not know the details of why he was fired but it sounds like he just posted some video on an Orlando Weekly blog. The video is probably something he did outside of his work.

Legally, of course, the Villages Media Group had ever right to fire the kid, but it seems like a bad public relations move given the age of the kid and his evident good spirits and intentions. No sense of humor shown in other words.

Looks like the spoiled kid's enablers here have never worked for a private-sector employer, where employees have to know and be aware daily of where income--needed to pay their wages/salaries/benefits--actually comes from.

Mock current and future customers and portray the product as a bunch of kooks and dementia patients, and customers will wisely go elsewhere.

Then when the economy and sales decline and the job cuts come, move in with mommy and daddy and have free food, housing, utilities, student loan payments paid by parents, and internet to play on all day. Then deliver a couple of pizzas at night for pot and beer money, using the parents' gas credit card. We've seen many examples among our kids' high school and college grad peers. Meanwhile, everyone here is banking on them to pay into SS, medicare etc.

Ummm. Apparently he doesn't have a job at the moment.

We have no idea why this kid is staying here in the Villages. We should give him a break.

I have no problem with young people living here with parents/grandparents who are disabled or are working their way thru college or have just graduated and need to save money on rent till they get a decent job.

I don't even have problem with the video itself. My kids probably did similar stunts. But publishing it on worldwide web where it will remain for a long, LONG time, mocking his employer who then fires him, should be a lesson learned to humble oneself and learn to take orders from an employer without daddy advocating for him on his Facebook page.

The employer taught him a lesson about employment that parents are too foolish to reinforce.

If you are in charge of a media company (TVMG) and are paid to portray your client (TV) in a positive light, would you permit your employees to post anything they want without running it by you first? As I mentioned earlier, this “kid” (BTW, he’s not a kid. He’s a grown man. I’m sure many here had the responsibilities of parenthood or running a company by 24) has a right to make this video, he doesn’t have a right to a job.

As for the quality of the video: I’ve seen better home movies shot with a cheap video camera and free editing software. I don’t think Hollywood will be calling.

To the MAN now looking for a job, I do wish you well.

It was a poor choice on the part of the kid but also a bad decision by the Villages Media Group. They should have just talked to him and given him a reprimand.

I remember around 2002 that at East Lake Community Library as a volunteer I got scolded for wearing various Florida Blood Services t-shirts. This was by the Library Director. Not sure which one as they came and went often. I probably bitched about this on Findlaw. Just venting. I did stop wearing Donate Blood t-shirts as I had been volunteering at the two Palm Harbor Libraries to get my foot in the door to gainful employment in a library in the Tampa Bay area. I even wore my business suit every once in a while even though that made me look over dressed.

I still think that scolding me for wearing "donate blood" t-shirts was bad PR as I was one of many volunteers who talked to one another about many subjects including volunteer dress codes. Just like many of us are talking about this firing of the kid by the Villages Media Group. It is a cure far worse than the disease.

The Villages Media Group already knew that the kid used Social Media and that is was very probable that the whole mess would find its way to TOTV and other places.

To the young man - I dare say there are few of us who didn't have a fubar in their career's. You can't make a habit out of it. If this is solely the reason they fired you be thankful. At 24 years old you don't want to make a career with this kind of employer. In no way did I interpret your video as anything more than good hearted fun. I also think it would actually sell more homes. In a certain way it was complimentary of us old fogies living a great lifestyle. One of my interpretations of your video is to live here makes you feel and act younger. Send that to your ex employer with my permission. Good luck in the future. You will do just fine.

I have had a lot of FUBARs in my career but am a 56 year old living with my parents here in the Villages since June 2005. I enjoy the company of seniors and do not need much to be happy. I have though ****ed off some powerful people over the years so from my perspective I would take it a little easier on making people holding many of the cards, so to speak, angry. I often felt I had no choice in my decisions because of many circumstances beyond my control. I do not believe in the kid's case that the Villages Media Group will hold a grudge against this 24 year old. At least, I hope that they do not.

I agree. It was humorous, and its now on my Facebook page. But the Morses can do whatever they want. I think in the long run, the kid is better off finding a different employment. This job was obviously not a good fit.

As to why he is living in the Villages, I don't think its anyone's business. He could have parents that need assistance, who are are ill, or any variety of other factors could be in play.
