It's a different world. I was about his age when I first started teaching. What if I could google myself and see a youtube giving a lesson in 1975?
Everything you put out there is saved.

He has other videos you can see. My point is that if he needs to make videos, to see if he has a gift, he should not post them publicly on youtube. Maybe his boss is not very bothered by what he posted but more concerned about what he might post.

I think it's a case of bad judgement here.
If you're a member of the media, you probably shouldn't, even lightheartedly, make fun of the audience you cover.
I know no details, but considering he was fired, he possibly may have been filming some of this on company time. Again, all speculation.

I hope he does well in his next journey.
Looks like he wants to be a YouTube star.

Florida is an "at will" state, you can get fired for saying Boo!

Sandtrap328 11-19-2015 09:10 PM

The young man should have run it by his office managers before posting to see it it conflicted with terms of employment.

Not very funny and not very respectful to be calling all of us "old people" several different times.

burky 11-19-2015 09:18 PM

Fired? For that??

I thought it was well done and a cute attempt at parody. I felt nothing was offensive and applaud the "kid" for his creative video making and good editing skills.

I am disappointed the Villages Media Group would terminate him. Bad management decision. Good managers would have found a way to put those creative juices to work!

I think he needs a haircut.:1rotfl::clap2::MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:

So what you get is a video of the villages narrated by a spoiled kid who apparently knows nothing of the world and bases his limited take on this retirement community on zero worldly knowledge. He looks at what's offered and makes fun of it all. Okay I get it. He's bored and from his world view and interests it doesn't do it for him. Give him 50 years and perhaps he'll understand that his life now is thousands of times better than millions of kids his age living in abject poverty while he drives around in a GEM cart, passing swimming pools, athletic fields and hundreds of other things we find nice to have access to.

He's insensitive and mildly obnoxious, but what teenager isn't. Obviously good values aren't part of his upbringing. He'll either figure it out as he grows older(if he makes it as we know there are no guarantees)or he'll remain ignorant. In any case I've more important things to worry about...now where are my glasses and my beer bottle opener(I drink beer that doesn't have screw caps).

Oh and ungrateful youngster...try living in a climate where just getting to the end of your driveway takes three hours of snow clearing.

I think he has a future with SNL.

Is someone having a bad day???? Hope tomorrow is better for you.

Really...I thought it was funny. Write-up maybe, but certainaly not termination; especially if this is his first offense. Come on, where's your sense of humor ?

billethkid 11-19-2015 11:25 PM

TV from the eyes of a 24 year old........sorta tongue in cheek humor but I do not think it was intended to be offensive....it was not offensive to me....one of my twenty something grandchildren would do something similar!

If my son were insubordinate to his employer like this, I sure as hell would not defend that behavior publicly, on Facebook. I'd be ashamed and would stay out of it altogether.

Yes but then you would have to defend that position. Most states are "at will" states but once you cite a reason for firing someone you need to defend that at cause offense.

Perhaps there was a legitimate reason or no reason for firing this kid but one thing is quite clear about this place it is highly defensive and protective when it comes to its brand.

As to the issue of seniors in case you haven't heard there is an unofficial campaign by baby boomers who take exception to be viewed as seniors and all the stereotypical baggage that comes with it.... dare I say many view it as a micro-aggression. That's why we have the new 70 is 60, That's why the the face lifts industry is booming and that's why all the hormone injections so that we have a 70 year old face on a 20 something body. well I was a war baby and I don't need no stinking hormone injections:D
